So has anybody fitted an oil catch can to a Disco 2 v8.......
I have pulled down mine and found the right hand bank is full of oil residue and carbon, but the left hand bank is running spot on. You can still see the cross hatch in the bore and the lip in the bore is minimal. There is a fair bit of oily residue in the intake as well. I think the oil changes were a little lacking in this engine before I purchased it. Doesn't look like it has ever been apart. Had a massive oil leak from the valley cover gasket and a slight coolant weep from the back of the right hand cylinder head and the front of the left hand cylinder head........ Got a little side tracked there...... So, has anybody fitted a catch can ?:D

AFAIR on Thor the LH bank has the inlet pipe for the crank ventilation and the RH bank is the outlet to the throttle body. So that may be why the LH bank is clean and the RH dirty .
Usually there is no need for catch cans on an RV8. If badly carboned you have to clean the baffles .
If it is breathing so much that you have a positive pressure with the oil cap off you have bigger problems.

Thanks for that..... There is a fair bit of sludge build up internally and a 50,000k gap in the service book. Looks like it hasn't been serviced for some time...... I must admit I didn't check to see if there was pressure in the crankcase, I just picked it up and drove it straight into the shed and pulled the heads off to fix the oil and coolant leaks before I got it muddy..... I might just replace the oil separator and give it good cleaning out and see what happens. If that isn't suitable then I will just rebuild the engine I guess......I mean, it's only money right ?
