Finaly got it on the road

Finally got a written off vehicle inspection for my accidentaly purchased 1999 td5 hail damaged car so got to take it for a 600k round trip to get inspection.
For the most part am quite happy with it as seems to have been very well maintained in the past, just have a couple of general questions if you don't mind as have never been in a landy before so don't know whats normal and whats not.
power is what I would expect for a 16 year old diesel, if you have cruise set on 100kph and floor it as if overtaking it takes 14seconds to go from 100 to 120 with a top speed of 140 max. dunno if that's what I should expect or not.
fuel economy isn't bad, worked out at 10L/hundred km for the 600 km trip.
Am a bit disappointed in the ride quality though as reading second hand car reviews they said the ride of the disco 2 with ace was better on road than cruiser or patrol but this one seems to wobble from side to side a fair bit (as if it doesn't have a sway bar fitted) just wondering if that's just what they are like or if something could be wrong or if its just the crappy roads out here confusing the ace into thinking you are cornering when you aren't. 100 series landcruiser wagons and patrol wagons that I have been in don't do this .


any comments on power or suggestions about ride would be appreciated .
also don't know if previous owner is a member on here (previous rego was QLD 029HBW before it was written off) as I wouldn't mind finding out just what work had been done on it in the past as all I got from the auction was a receipt and a key, there was no service book or anything in the car that would show any type of mechanical history but was very well looked after as doesn't even have an oil leak on it.

Some things to look at has it been lifted and check steering :) does it feel like the wheels are steady and its body roll or is it wandering on the road.

Have to get one of the D2 owners to answer the speed question I have a D1 and I don't think its ever done 140 kph:D

Wheels feel fine it's more body roll as it sits on road fine just sways a lot more than I expected

D2 with ace should not do what you are saying , the ride for a live axle vehicle is really quite good , and yep , better than the Japanese , are you sure it has ace ?. Are there hydraulic rams on the car ?
As for power ,there are lots of easy mods to increase it , just look around this forum , any question you can think of ? , the answer will be here somewhere. But to answer you original question , standard from new a d2 td5 top speed was around 155km/hr

not too concerned about power as yet as it overtakes better than my proton jumbuck, was just seeing if it was about right considering age.


Havent looked underneath yet for rams , am just assuming it has ace because it has the tank for it with the power steering fluid resevior and when motor is running you can see that fluid is pumping into both tanks and also has the ace light on dash when you turn the key and it goes out after starting car. just had a look yep looks like horizontal ram running front to back up above rear sway bar and I doubt it has been lifted as doesn't look overly high and previous owner looks to only have fitted spotties and electric brake controller no other mods , it even still has the egr valve in it looks like it was used as a towing rig
