View Full Version : Interior trim pieces - where to buy?

Guys,
I've been thinking about replacing some interior bits. Stuff like carpets and wood trim pieces etc.... and then got to thinking about the centre console, which is really the only thing in the car that 'needs' replacing (it's ok but the vinyl is delaminating and the shifter surround was butchered in a past owners life and superglued to the outer vinyl).

So just wondering if you guys know the best place to source these bits.

Ideally a full wood kit, incl the dash bits & centre console inserts, and the door trim pieces.

then the carpets and those plastic screw fixings. There is not a real lot wrong with the carpets, but I have steam cleaned them already, and they are starting to look tired. Is it worth replacing them or should I simply have a trimmer make a new set up using the existing ones as a template? (if I did this I'm almost afraid of putting in carpet from wilton, which would be just silly).

Something about this car makes me want to preserve the 'Luxo-barge' that it undeniably is, and yet the other half of me is planning and costing the mechanical upgrades to soon take place.

Any good sources for trim would be appreciated. (i am aware of dept/interior consoles, and not really a fan).
thanks in advance-

I have just put in order to Famous Four in the UK for stuff for my 2 door. Already had one delivery, not cheap but very efficient..

What year?

Wood wasn't invented when my POS was built in 74.

Wood is only necessary if you're starring in movies of a particular genre.

Biggest issue is nowhere seems to have the colour. Or the trim fabric...

I'd like to get some new carpets, and the screw-plugs.
That includes the cargo space.

I wouldn't mind re-trimming some other bits - mind you there is nothing wrong with the trim per-se. Just thinking about preservation, but the main consideration here is if I am unable to obtain the cloth, then down the track I'll probably redo the seats in leather - but for me the car would lose a bit of it's charm. I have enough leather in the Merc's and I quite like the fabric in the RRC. It's very tasteful, and of good quality.

I'd love a new console & cubby mostly because the vinyl is delaminating and no amount of contact cement is going to rescue it this time.
More than that, I'd like new wood. The driver & passenger door strip are cracking / delaminating - and that presents an opportunity.
The centre console and dash do not have the wood trim, so it's a great time to redo the lot, if only the pieces which need replacing are done now, any later additional wood trim replacement pieces are not likely to match.

I saw this pretty cool picture somewhere on a range rover site, about a guy who completely rebuilt the dash on his RRC and retrimmed it in burl and brushed aluminium.- and while it's not quite my thing, it did look quite nice.

That's not what I am wanting to achieve though. I'm simply looking to replace parts with the OEM optional trim pieces where possible.

if those parts are not available (as it seems to be the case for the wood trim and carpets and cloth) then I'm going to have to look for alternative solutions which maintain the coherence of the interior trim.

That's interestig, I assumed I'd be able to find some unbroken plastic dash bit easily. It appears not if everyone is after them. Has anyone tried plastic welding the broken plastic back together and re-dying it

I don't mind the look of that guys console, especially the single piece section for the lower dash area with the DIN mount radio. Pity there is no further follow-up on it. Even if he wasn't producing consoles anymore it'd be nice to have a cut list.

This console seems well thought out & provides extra storage:

Has anyone tried these kits?

37 Piece Walnut Or Carbon Fibre Dash Kit Range Rover Classic 1986-1995 RHD/LHD | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/37-Piece-Walnut-Carbon-Fibre-Dash-Kit-Range-Rover-Classic-1986-1995-RHD-LHD-/350805002557?hash=item51ad9b893d)

Tacky looking, but it appears to be a "shell" that would cover over all the smashed, melted and holed plastic :wasntme:

You cant beat these, fiberglass and trimmed in Vinyl to match your stock interior. I had this console in my 89 RRC, Solid and good looking. http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/contents/en-us/d652.html

Pretty sure I still have them. Somewhere under the house. Think there is aircond under dash bit, gear surround and possibly window switch panel

Are these of any interest?

I purchased them as a "backup" set and no longer need them $200 asking price is $50 less than I paid for them. The other picture is my original set after refinishing with Myrtle veneer

Hi All,

I'm starting to put the shiny ****boxes dash back together. when I picked up the radio surround, it cracked across the top, allowing one half of it to twist down and break in half (wow the quality of the plastic is appalling). I have already repaired this in the past by pop riveting the broken bits together, but it's broken beside the metal strapping and pop rivets (much like the center console),.

has anyone come up with a smart way of fabricating new consoles/radio surrounds... or repairing these? (modifying a similar console/radio surround would be best).

It looks like the plastic maybe ABS. As I managed to get some ABS welding rod to stick to it. This is a very short term and ugly repair if I manged to weld it back together though.

Shane L.

Over the last 4 years Mine's cracked and been repaired several times Shane. I think the best "fix" would be to replace the entire section, including the triangular wings and make a timber / ply / fibreglass replacememnt - all depending on preference.
Despite the fact the recess for the radio is insufficient for a decent modern head unit, you'd be better off making one to suit yourself anyway

I'm still thinking about some fab work in that area.

It looks quite straight forward to fabricate new consoles if you have a look at the youtube videos. I just need to the car back together in the interim (I just don't ahve the time for more projects at the moment.... and need to car back together).

I'll post some piccies later of what I'm dealing with. No doubt yours is the same.

Surely someone in this country has access to a 3D printer, and the skills to operate it.
I can't believe that LR would be interested in copyright if they don't still produce/provide this stuff?

I wouldn't want a 3D printed console. It would be plastic. Much better to make one out of aluminium/ply/fiberglass. It would be stronger, and it needs to be covered either way :) The radio surround would be the challenge as you need ot include the fuse box and switches into the housing.
