6 Steam Locos with plenty of action Saturday and Sunday (also the full local festival).
ACT's Garrett 6029 arriving will be the star attraction :)

I wonder if 6029 will be staying at Thirlmere for a while? It has an arrival time from Goulburn but another loco is doing the return trip.
We have a busy weekend planned but it looks like we can squeeze in a few trainspotting episodes at Douglas Park station at least.

Love to be there, but it's a bit far from the South East of SA!
Odd that they hold this in the middle of summer when there's the possibility of fire bans.
I know in SA (and in WA I reckon), you won't see any steam excursions during the fire danger season.

They don't usually run steam during Summer. The main day for Steamfest is the first Sunday in March which technically makes it Autumn.
I'm not sure if it's been held on a full weekend before but it seems to be getting bigger each year so maybe they've expanded it to cover 2 days now.

3237 coming through Douglas Park on Saturday morning:

6029 was doing a trip to Picton on Sunday afternoon so we waited at the station for it. We heard the whistle but the train stopped about 200m from the station on the Thirlmere branchine & didn't make it onto the mainline.
The station master at Picton told us that he'd heard 6209 was staying at Thirlmere for a month.
He said it wasn't doing the return run to Goulburn as it didn't have enough coal. That seems a little odd unless it needs something special.
We then drove to Thirlmere to see it waiting for the train jam to clear before moving to the station.

By the time we climbed the stairs at Picton station, strapped both kids into the car & drove to Thirlmere, 6029 was sitting on the tracks opposite Bridge St so we were well into the 60 zone & the road itself was clear.
Sorry, not my fault you were late home to cook dinner for Ian :).

Steam fanatics do strange things....the notion of a passing steam locomotive is like a drug.....for some.:D;

6029 is parked up behind the Roundhouse at Thirlmere at the moment.
I thought/hoped it might be actually on display for the time it's there but, unless you like looking through a chainwire fence, it's not.
At least looking through a chainwire fence is free ;).

It's doing a run with Heritage Express on the 29th of March from Picton to Moss Vale so I'd imagine it'll be heading home from there seeing as it's not doing the return leg.
