I thought these things were designed to fly through hail storms.
One wonders as to the consequences of those windscreens failing. Wasn't there a plane lost recently that flew through a storm?

Not really designed to fly through hail, small stuff is ok. Planes will go hundreds of miles off course if need be to avoid thunderstorms. Hope they had auto land. There was a british airways plane yonks ago the the captain was blown out the window when it failed, one of the other crew held his legs so he didn't disappear all the way and the copilot landed it. He survived

i remember that one well, at the time i saw it on TV. i had a Russian owned Nissan V6 turbo thing in the drive way and a pile of vented disks and pads that the owner had gotten off Ebay.
of the 4 calliper bouts on the front there were 3 types. only 2 had markings. one calliper had a flogged out hole.
there was a bit of a Mexican stand off because
1 i would not re assemble it with the bolts i had removed.
2 the owner just wanted it done. i wanted new bouts and a new calliper.
after having this thing sit in my drive way for a fortnight. the owner arrived with the cops. no surprise the cops informed the owner if they saw the car on the road it would be stickers and he would lose his licence. the owner backed down and agreed to get the new bits, including callipers. the cops told me not to touch any thing until further notice.
apparently one calliper had come off and was suposably repaired by a so called professional mechanic, receipt an all.
more cops came back the next day, took photos. and i had to make a statement. etc i believe that the cops did follow up with the previous repair idiots. but that's all i know.
