D2 Back Door Won't Open

Hey guys having an issue with the back door on my D2.
It obviously won't open - even if I climb in the back over the seats and use the inside handle
I can hear it unlocking with the key fob but am getting nothing from either inside or outside handles - any ideas on how to get it open

Search and you'll find this is a common issue with several remedies.

Easiest method is to give the black handle a really good whack with your fist or a rubber mallet. Then try opening.

Repeat until it works!

Probably has not closed properly. Try giving it solid push or kick as if you are trying to force it closed. Then see if it opens. A hip and shoulder tackle, or a solid kick with my foot sorts mine out.

If that does it then just make sure you also slam it shut and it should be no problem.

A new door lock actuator should be on the cards.
Keep fiddling till the old one opens then put a new one in it should last another 10 years.

Yep, this treatment worked for me too! I then removed lock assembly from door, cleaned and lubricated it then re-installed the assembly in-side a plastic bag to reduce the dust entry. Thus far after approximately 20,000k's mostly on dirt/bull dust roads, it hasn't played up, not once.

Mine tried that one once...after some swearing and cursing, it relented and opened up...some CRC into the mechanism and no further issue...with that :)

Removing the LR badge and squirting WD40 in there might help as well

Hi all, never spray WD40 into any lock it atracks dust into your lock, the only lubricant to use in these types of liocks is graphite powder it is very messy but it the best thing. If you have a key that sticks or feels a bit stiff you can rub your key on lead pencil and the the insert it into the lock a few times this often makes the lock operate better. If this doesn't it will probably be a bent wafer or spring.

does the "grab handle" feel firm ? it may not be re setting . try adding an extra tension spring from the lever to a point near by . also wth the door card off take the time to carefully clean the mechanism and associated parts for signs of wear or damage
