I was leaving the carpark at the backbeach this arvo and heard a nasty clunk and found i'd snapped the tie-bar(see attached pic) not surprising as one of the bolts holding the tie-bar/crossrod mounting bracket was missing so all the stress was on the tie bar. The drive home was interesting-if i went over 20km/h the whole front end would shake violently

Later models have a much stronger, non-slotted bracket. When I put my Defender body onto the Perentie chassis I made sure to use the Defender bracket.

Have sourced a S/H tie-bar- is there any special procedure for refitting? Do i need to jack up the front end first?

As long as the diff is in the general central position you shouldn't have to jack it up Matt.

just fitted new tie-bar but wondering why there isn't a bush fitted-seems like there should be one?

No bush fitted Matt. It just slops around in that big hole.:D
Plenty of room for adjustment.
