When a flat tyre is a good thing

The mighty V8 developed a miss on LPG towing from Ballarat to Hamilton, the trips around 170(?) kays and the PULP tank gives me around 150, so some judicious fuel swapping had to occur! Anyway we arrived in Hamilton and Di had found an LPG business called D.I.M.M.S.
No sooner had we explained ourselves than Doug the owner had decided on a course of action. No two week wait here!:D Plugs were pulled and examined and all replaced, new leads were ordered overnight, LPG system checked by laptop and found to be in good order. But then I looked towards the back of the car and found a semi-flat tyre. A big 12v rattle gun was produced and with the help of a second fully charged batt all the nuts were off. ( big hint here) 2 batts to loosen 5 wheel nuts? With the wheel off I took the opportunity to take a good look around under
there (as you do)and whats that black gunk on the rotor? Yep, failed bearing/o ring/housing.
And TWO separate people have been under there before me,, when the new tyres were fitted and when I had them rotated, neither obviously cared to look further than their noses.
and yes, I did undo and tension all the wheel nuts;)
Parts fitted today,, on the road again tomorrow:D

ive had similar happen to me on another vehicle. Im a bit parnoid now and have a quick slide under all our cars at home every sat morning. Bit of a ritual. and its pays off - two weeks ago i discovered a rear diff seal leaking on my prado - not dripping but had sprayed all under the body. i have a theory that everything mechanical will fail at some stage - its just a matter of when, so best to find a sign before it goes bang.

Although, i have to say, since purchasing my project disco, every time i slide under the car i find another item to add to the to do list :cool:

The work van i had quite a few years ago had a sort of miss at high speed,couldn't really work out what was exactly wrong,but i knew something was not right.It ran LPG.

The LPG tech i used checked everything,all ok,then put it on the rollers and one rear tyre was out of round.Replaced all tyres as they were all just about shot,no more issues.
