Hello everyone. I've been lurking around for a while, trying to gain some knowledge about these beasts.
I did something rather unwise the other day and made a fairly spur of the moment decision and bought a Perentie!
It looks to be in pretty good condition (of course looks can be vary deceiving)
I'm picking the truck up next week. First order of business will be changing as many of the fluids/filters as I can.
I've downloaded the Servicing Instruction and will be doing as many of the things on there as I can before taking it to the Mechanic to finish off (empty my wallet).
I am losing my mind a little with trying to find both part numbers and where I can buy them for the filters.
I'm in brisbane, If anyone can offer any suggestions I would be most grateful.
I've put my question in blue.
At present, I'm planning on doing,
Air filter(s)
fuel filter
oil filter
part numbers and somewhere to buy from in Brisbane or Ebay?
Engine oil - 15w-40 8.5L (or some people have mentioned they only needed 7 - guess I'll find out)
Front Diff - EP 80/90 1.7L
Rear Diff - EP 85/140 2.4L
(Found a few references that the diffs should get the same oil, and some say different, can anyone say anything definitive about what oil they should get?)
Gearbox 15w-40
(Should I use normal engine oil or diesel engine oil for this)
Gearbox 15w40 2.7L
Transfer Case 15w40 3.2L
Power T/O 15w40 2.6L
(are the transfer case and PTO one unit for changing the oil, or do they have separate fill/drain ports)
Ideally it would be nice to use the same engine oil in all those things that take the 15w40 so I can just buy a 20 L drum.
I need to buy a grease gun. Is there a special connection that I need?
any tips on greasing things. are there covers on the grease nipples? how much do I put in or how doI know when to stop? The EMEI doesn't explain that.
What grease should I use?
Swivel Pin Housings - it just says a sachet of Molytex grease?
Washers/Gaskets for all the plugs.
Are they a standard size or all different?
Where to buy them?
On the diffs/gearbox etc are there gaskets on the fill ports or just the drain?
I haven't changed oil in differentials gearboxs etc before but reading the manual and youtube videos it seems fairly straightforward.
Anything special to look out for?
I'm sure I'll find other things to ask about, but that should do for the time being. Thank you in advance.

Oh yeah, I can't believe the valves need adjusting every 2 years!
can anyone tell me roughly how much they paid to have that done?

G'day welcome to the ownership of a Perentie :) did you get the logbook with it?
If so it should have it's servicing in it, if you bought it at auction the log book should be in the door pocket,if not contact the office and quote the army rego number for it,should have been written on the windscreen "49-123"or whatever,
That logbook details all any work carried out on the vehicle.
Hope that is of help,it may also be worthwhile contacting "barefoot Dave"as he has a wealth of knowledge and has a book on them available ;)

Which I recommend reading as it has heaps of info. As for what oils go where, there is a plaque on the LH side seat that has all the oils and lubricants to use.

But what I found easiest was just to give my vin to my local Isuzu dealer and he gave me a engine filter kit.

I've read through the service information from AMR.
Actually downloaded all of them and will be heading off to Officeworks later to print them off and get them bound into a nice book/manual for me.
I've worked out the fuel/oil/air filter numbers. My local Isuzu dealer has them all in stock (nice).
What engine oil are people using? I can get Castrol RX 15x40 in a 20L drum for $123 from our mates at Supercheap which will do engine/gearbox/transfer case and PTO.
Diff oils? The Lube chart says both diffs get OEP220 which is 80w-90 gear oil.
but then this post (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/coil-sprung-military-land-rovers/183981-oils-cargo-perentie.html#post2009014) talks about the rear diff getting 85-140???
I'm confused. Also can anyone help me with the plug gasket sizes? (for like the oil sump plug and transmission drain/fill etc...

Finally picked her up today.:D
She is 49 627; a MC2 with winch.
Looks like she started life up in Townsville, then ended up down in Brisbane with 6RAR. That's a nice little coincidence since I am about 1 km from the Enoggera Barracks.
145K on the clock, only 20k in the last 10 years according to the log.
Seems to drive ok, plenty of power, not obvious noises.
Booked in for a look over on monday, so we'll see how we go!

Nice pickup there Chris, It should be good for about another 750K. You won't be disappointed if you are looking for a good solid no frills Landrover. "Perentie" was a good choice of names for this vehicle as like the lizard it was named after they are tough and versatile and will excel in almost any situation. A good suggestion would be to purchase a copy of Barefoot Dave's buyers guide which will give you a wealth of information and knowledge on these vehicles which will assist you in doing all the servicing yourself. Look forward to seeing the pics.

before anyone says anything, I know I have the wrong gear oil, have to go back and exchange it tomorrow.
new spare tyre, others look to be about 75%, rear diff looks near new, front diff not so much. anyone know where to get a new one of those plugs or how to stop that little ooze? (that's if there is still anything in there, maybe it's just empty :o)
plan for the weekend is
fuel filter change, engine oil and filter, transmission and PTO oil change.
Front and rear diff oil change. grease up every nipple I can find.
clean fuel sedimenter.
then she's off to the mechanic on monday for a look over.
All going well and she's ok, then a trip down the gold coast to grab some locks and other things from Justin (Landybitzau) .
Anyone have a recommendation on if fuel injector clean would be of any use? Seeing as it's a 250km round trip, I thought it might be worth throwing some in the tank.

Also, Supercheap is having 20% off tomorrow (Saturday 14th) for club members ($5 to join) both instore and online.
might be worth doing some shopping if you need some stuff.
/I have no association with Supercheap, just thought people might like to know.
Also if anyone wants what looks like a brand new high lift jack PM and we can work something out. the rear bench seats will also soon be available (probably)

hmm. possibly. I spoke to him about it beforehand and he was fine. I've already bought the stuff.
I can strain all the fluids for metal, and now that you mention it, I'll keep a small sample of each one to show him.
Just trying to save a few $$$$. This was a bit of an impulse buy and the bank account is a little light at the moment.[tonguewink]
