A new highspeed hybrid helicopter from Airbus Eurocopter. A nice video clip but a bit light on in technical details. :)

No explaination on how it deals with rotational forces of the main rotor.

Normally the problem with helicopter and speed is the advancing blade needs to go too fast and creates a flutter or something.

Looks good. The biggest problem I foresee is it is mad by Eurocopter now Airbus Helicopters. They never seem to be able to deliver what they promise. it would be fantastic for long range search and rescue.

I don't know anything about helicopters, but I put forward this theory.........

Maybe when the helicopter has taken off and is going forward propelled by the two forward facing propellers, the rotor on top freewheels like a Gyrocopter.

Worse is the retreating blade stall. As the blade disc move faster through the air, there is a zone of near zero and reversed flow that moves further outwards on the retreating side. Once it reaches a certain point the disk will pitch up violently du to gyroscopic precession.

Cool looking machine. Looks like they have essentially taken the tail rotor and made it face forwards and duplicated it. The side rotors would provide the yaw control. That's clever. Seems like a lot simpler solution to making it go fast than the tilt rotor.
