To all that are interested...
Recently had a customer in that had gone for a swim with the ignition key and plip (transponder), he then had it flat bedded to the dealer to have a new plip programmed for it (at the most horrific cost Ive heard), which prompted me to add this info here...
If as a repairer, indy or a enthusiastic owner you have the gear to program a new plip to older Defenders such as the TD5, then you can use the same diagnostic tools and steps to do the same with a Defender (2007 on) puma as listed below.
Program new plip (transponder)
If for example you are using the Land Rover T4 diagnostic tool, simply select a Defender TD5 (2006) then go into the security option and go through the normal program options.
Disable Immobilizer
Technically this isnt disabling it, its just setting it so the "OK" signal goes to the engine computer the moment the ignition is set to on, rather than waiting on the handshake from the plip (transponder). I set this option on clients that use their Defender (TD5 or otherwise) for regular remote use, so if they happen to loose the plip or damage it they arent stuck out in the middle of nowhere, and yes the remote to lock / unlock the doors still functions.
Another "cool" thing is to use the Defender puma key if you need a replacement key for your Defender as its big chunky easy for Land Rover Defender owner to grip onto.
Hope the info helps.
