Gday all,
2.4 puma 90,40k service before i set of from perth.had ecu upgrade for a bit more power etc.Done 7500 ks and now in Hervey bay.
Car had no extra to little power, did up to 22 ltrs for 100ks,exhaust nearly destroyed mud flap.Drove ok all the way over 10 days and always started ok.checked all hoses for wear and tear, splits etc and just took it to LR in hervey bay, started it to pull it in workshop to do a diagnose thing and it runs for 10 seconds then stops, nothing on throttle at all.Starts again and same 10 seconds.
Im moved frow wa to qld for work and need to get to Brissie for work soon.
Bit worried and stressed bout it all,has the ecu re map ****ed up,has this gone wrong or other so...
Anyone that may be able to help with what the go could be is realy appreciated to get me out of the ****.
If its ok you can call me on 0405040555 or email me adamsw@live.com.au
Thanks all fellow landy lovers for help in advance.
Cheers.
Adam

IIRC, the starting then stopping a few seconds later is related to the immobilizer.

It was quite a common complaint when the Puma first came out so I'm surprised a LR dealer wouldn't know about it so maybe it's not related after all.

My guess also immobilizer but its only a guess. The dealer should be able to fix it.

I would be reverting to an original ECU if you can, even if just ot eliminate the possibility

Another option, very good people and relatively close to Hervey Bay

When the immobiliser is activated, they tend to run then stop after about 1 second rather than 10 seconds. Would be worth checking though, try simply locking and unlocking with the remote button which resets the immobiliser. Also check all the fuses under the driver's seat, if one of the central locking looms has chafed or broken they can blow one of the fuses that powers the immobiliser.

I think I read lock unlock 3 times for reset.

Good luck mate.

Something to remember for all guys running remaps...

ALWAYS restore the original map before taking it to a Land Rover dealer or indy repairer that runs diagnostics able to rewrite the ECU.

The guys from Bell Auto Services told me that if the diagnostics tries to read and correct an error or fault code, it has a very good chance in scrambling your ECU and it will pretty much be cactus (as in completely fried - need a new blank one $$$$).

Certainly hope this is not the case with yours mate, but see if you can flash the original map back as per AndyG's suggestion.

I've religiously flashed the original map back every time anyone other than myself touched my car.

Cheers,

Lou

Could it be a simple case of the batteries in the keyfob need replacing?

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins then connect it again and see how that goes.

Ye sorry all for not getting back soon as.
B4WD,i had that ecu put back to standard and put it in ,ran for a while and on test drive it went 500mtrs then stopped again.
Spoke to Rover Tec and we arranged a guy to come with a Launch, lots of stuff happening with faults but seemd to be intermittant.
Then its found the CHT could be faulty as it shows running at 150c so shuts motor down, disconnect it and it all seems to run fine.
Orderd from Sydney and await to see.
If that int it im well ****ed,asked about running it without this sensor connected till i get somewhere and can afford to spend time and money.
Well knocked me confidence with these pumas, wish id never had the ecu upgraded cos i still state that it was fine before i took it into Perth.
Ps...should the fuel filter be replaced on a 40k service. ?
Thanks all, will check here more often and let you all know.

To be fair, I get customers Land Rovers remapped by Rovertech (and openly tell my customers who is doing it) and have never had an issue. Id guess most 2.4lt Defender pumas that have had a remap in Perth have been done by Rovertech (you will find they were the first to be doing it). Most issues Ive seen with remaps on the puma have been ones from the U.K

Personally the whole thing about setting it back to a standard remap before taking it to the dealer, really to me is asking for more issues. Every time a remap or reflash is done there is the potential for it to fail, get interrupted, or corrupted. It shouldnt be considered a willy nilly thing to chop and change every second. Any decent repairer with good knowledge and good diagnostic tools wont have an issue with a remap (if its a good one that has been done properly).

Do hope you get it sorted, and keep us upto date on progress.

Regards
Daz

P.S I change fuel filters on ALL diesels EVERY service (so 10K), I fail to understand anyone not doing this on ANY common rail diesels with the pressures they run.

Well its going again but.
I had the ecu sent back and my original programme put back in but also the CHT had gone, apparently showing 150c so it shuts the motor down after a few seconds.
Now it gets tricky, rover tec say the CHT broke the miniute it left there shop and then it broke again when i got to hervey bay.
Not sure if i can belive in such bad luck...again,it ran perfect before it went in there and didnt when i took it on my trip.8k doing over 20lts per 100.
So now im not sure what to do,although it is running i need to get to the bottom of it if i can.
Its back to how it was and its only talking to a chap on here thats advised that i may even consider an ecu upgrade again...if at all.But alas...
Due to other circumstances its going,up for sale on gumtree brisbane.
If anyones interested have a look at it and who knows.
Not sure if the price is ok but got 41 on it as its got **** loads of stuff done. Will wait and see.
Thanks all..
