Sorry about the new thread but am frustrated over lack of steel winch Bullbar not being available, getting runaround from ARB & OL
Landy Andy i am sure Snow White has Discovery on Bonnet & bullbar on front?
has anybody on the forum got a D4 with Discovery on the Bonnet fitted with a bull bar? if so can you let me know where it came from.
have been told it is not available:(
heading off on the big trip with a 20 foot van behind in July so would really like one.
Thanks

No problem getting a bar from OL over here.
As you've said, LandyAndy has one, and there's at least one more getting around Kalgoorlie that I know of.
Both supplied and fitted by OL in Bunbury.

According to both OL and ARB, they do not have certified bars for the MY 2014.. I've been waiting for 6 months . If someone is fitting ARB or OL bars to MY14s then I would suggest they may not have been tested.
I'm sure pre-MY14 bars fit, or can be made to fit but testing and certification must be vehicle/marque specific. OK the front end changes in the MY14 are cosmetic.. but its still different.
ECB don't envisage any problems but can't afford a vehicle to test on.
ARB are still in the process of developing. This was current as of last month. My mechanic spoke to them and I heard the conversation.

I can't see an Opposite Lock branch supplying and installing this and others like it if is not "tested" and certified safe for the vehicle it is installed on. ;)
I also can't see LandyAndy allowing anyone to install something like this on his new D4 if there is any question about its legality / compliance.
As far as I'm aware, the differences between the latest model D4 and previous models are cosmetic only - there are no differences in the actual mounting of the bar. So the question of "testing" is a non issue.

The MY 14 D4 will accept the OL bar as you see in the pics.
OL put their own fog lights in,ARB use original which dont fit.OL retrofit early D4 washer jets as the MY14 are different.
Bar is classified for a D4,until a D5 comes out they dont need to re-classify.
Contact Toby at OL Bunbury, perhaps he can help your local OL man.I too got the run around from other OL dealers, one even told me he doesnt touch Landys.

Andrew,
So is mine I thought. I have the TDV6 and never asked for additional sensors on the front to back. The ones in the back are a pain any way and those in the front are there to annoy you I am sure.
I have the reversing came so probably came with that.
Might stop me running over the wife i suppose.

Mine were a pain when I bought the vehicle, seemed to scream at me even when the wheely bin was meters away. Now none of them work as one was unplugged and removed for the single swing away. I still get an annoying scream when I put the thing in reverse... its telling me they are not working.. I bloody well know that!.. so do I weld a tab on the swing away and relocate the missing one, or do I find out how to permanently disable the "I'm telling you what you already know" siren?

I just press the button to turn the sensor sound off when I go in to reverse. I can probably live with that as I am not convinced they are worth it given the problems. The camera is much more useful.

I bought a tyre compressor and tracks from ARB and I asked them about the bull bar. Fast compressor by the way ... I have a 2014 HSE with front parking sensors. They said they could fit the front bar, no problem, after they went and checked.
They said previously, that they had tried to put new wiring for the parking sensors, and they had had some work no problems, but others were problematic.
So now, they say they have a kit which retains all the original Land Rover sensors and all the wiring. They said it is now reliable because they are using the Land Rover sensors etc.
But that the downside they said is that you cannot put the old bumper bar back on the vehicle ... they say they get into a part of the front of the car which eliminates putting back the normal bumper bar. I am not sure if that applies to just D4s with front sensors or to all 2014 D4s ...

I wish the ARB guys would get their act together. I was at an ARB during the week and asked and was told they did not have a bar available. Claimed there were issues with the lights and sensors. This is for 2014 D4.
Which ARB did you visit? I can refer them to them I guess.

Those of us with the poverty pack don't get the magic button, it's only on the cars with front sensors also I think.
Actually very irritating for me, I regularly have a bike rack on the back so would love to stop the noise when reversing. Why does it have to be so loud!?

The button is on the front panel in the middle to the right of the hazard button. It has P on it.
I have the base model but do have a reversing camera and sensors so may be not the poverty pack.
I thought it was standard and so was wondering why people were have an issue with it when you can just push the button. Now I know.

I believe you only get the button to turn off the sensors if you have front sensors as well.
Here's a pick of it in the D4 console.

The ARB who would fit the bumper and keep the front parking sensors was the Brighton ARB, a factory owned outlet. Its located in Nepean Highway, in Melbourne, Victoria.

I don't know with other D4s, but on mine, you can turn the volume down on the rear parking sensors too ... you just use the radio volume dial, and turn the volume down!!!! No need to even use the off switch.
I think its great that the volume is a live adjustment. In a Toyota, you have to go through menu after menu ... and then, you'll find the setting did not work out right ... so guys with no switch - try turning the volume down!!! Good luck and post if it worked!!

Mine has rear sensors only, can't be turned off which is a PITA at times.
The D2 had the answer,a switch to turn them off, then it automatically turned them back on when reverse was selected again,so they were never locked off permanently.
I will try the radio volume but they need to be back on full volume, automatically, when reverse is selected the next time,or they could be accidentally left with the volume so low you may not hear them.:(

Thanks for posting.
Apparently OL and ARB are the same (or at least same design), so no surprises that it looks the same, though to me it seems that the uprights are angled outwards slightly instead of perfectly vertical on others, so maybe it is a new (revised) design.
Does anyone know how easy it would be to go back to your plastic bumper down the track? Obviously the flares are cut but could you replace those and keep the other bits to convert back, or do they need to butcher some of the other plastics in the fitting process?

Looks like they have changes the bar design. I am sure the bar fitted to landyandy's MY14 has vertical uprights?
Ppras does the grill go in behind the bar or does it sit on top of it? The early MY14 installs had the bar positioned below the grill which left a large gap underneath the headlights, which needed a filler panel. Have they changed this?

They do,but are much harder to keep nice and clean, particularly if white. Also, if you do a bit of beach work, you will notice some very small rust marks in some areas, particularly along edges. The white bar also shows scratches and marks easier than black bars.
I have had both, next time will probably go back to black.

I'm finally having one fitted to my MY14 HSE in a couple of weeks by Opposite Lock in Welshpool WA. This is on recommendation from other members who have had it done there.
I agree about the run-around, most of the main dealers are franchises and I doubt there is any meaningful communication between them. Some know how to do it, some don't. If you are not in WA, I suggest you get your local OL dealer to phone OL Welshpool to get himself educated!

Not many dealers are going to supply and fit an aftermarket bar, especially when they have a genuine bar of their own, it would be like ARB supplying and fitting an OL bar for you.

Just go down to your local OL or ARB store and have them fit it, if you really want one

They shouldn't be, it's a National franchise, all products are a National listing, doesn't matter what store you visit online, so the store has no excuses about knowing what is available.

I'll bet if you ordered it online and had it sent to your closest store, it would turn up there, as long as it was for your model, the listing for the steel OL bullbar is 09 to 01/14.

Howdy I'm new here so i'll try to be good.
I've done much research on the bulbar front for the new 2015 discovery (4).
My Findings:
ARB are going to make one but will get around to it once they finish all the new utes, probably end of the year they said, but were not confitent.
OL: Will be making the new bullba sometime before then end of the year (I feel before ARB). BUT their existing bullbar does fit and they can change up the head light washers (extra $100 cost) and change over the fog lights (extra $106). Only issue is that there is a slightly larger gap between the headlights and front grill.
I was not happy about having to go this option but I'm off on a 3 month trip and needed a bar and winch so had to go this option. As far as I could research this was the only option.

Really not much different to existing OL / ARB bars, except for the two uprights. They have angled them to better follow the profile of the sides of the grille, and "rounded" off the front of them (when viewed from the side).
Looks like they have also recessed the headlight washer jets into the bar (at least better than the ARB arrangement - haven't seen the previous OL arrangement at close range).
Like the colour of your Disco - have only seen one other in this colour so far, and that was in SA towing a caravan just before easter. It had a colour matched bar on it, which looked very nice.

Perfect, thankyou pprass! It is amazing how much a simple curve here and there can enhance the look. I really like it. IMO a black bar suits the rich red colour. Nice gaps and clearance for vibration and movement all round. A little trim (black of course) on the flares will set it off nicely.
Now to wait and see if they accept cameras as well.

or even a chrome one
Chrome you say. Now that would look nice on a nara bronze I reckon.:)

I have the ARB winch bar on mine - it is very similar to LandyAndy's bar. I was told by ARB that the bar would have to come off if I later want to install a winch. However, I've been under the bar and had the bottom plates off more than once, and I really don't see why you would have to remove the bar to install a winch. I've previously installed a winch into another vehicle with very similar bar without having to remove or even loosen it - so unless there's something that I'm missing with these vehicles, I don't know what they're on about.
Edit : Tombie beat me to the draw.

It might be that it is just easier and quicker to access the area where the winch is bolted on and wired up if the bar is removed. I just had the winch on my 2004 Patrol removed (intended to put it on the Discovery - but it wasn't in good enough condition) and the bar was removed for that operation.

Hi pprass
bar looks great, you were so lucky to get one. QLD dealers have not been able to source one for me since August 2014?
What size & brand winch can be mounted?

I am not totally sure, but I was going to get an Ironman 9,500lb winch after the Brawn 9,500lb winch which came off my Patrol was too corroded to put on the Discovery. The mechanics didn't say anything about either of them not fitting, but we didn't try.
Regarding the OL bar - I was told they are going into full production in 6 weeks about a week ago :)

The Brawn is also sealed. The corrosion was on the edge of the drum and the electrics.

I don't know with other D4s, but on mine, you can turn the volume down on the rear parking sensors too ... you just use the radio volume dial, and turn the volume down!!!! No need to even use the off switch...
I tried the radio volume control on my TDV6 MY15, but nothing happened. I presume you have the radio turned off for this procedure and you turn the volume down as soon as you select Reverse and hear the high pitched sound.
I now get that high pitched sound the first time I select "R" which I understand from a previous post is telling me that the rear sensors are disconnected because one of them was removed when the OL rear wheel carrier was installed.

Howdy, my local opposite lock store is having trouble fitting a winch to this bulbar on a 2015 discovery. Have you or anyone else found a winch that will fit?
Thanks

So got by disco back tonight from OL, without the RUNVA winch, they had heaps of trouble with it. Although finally they have said that they will need to lower the winch and rotate it, and use an offset hawse and it should be fine.
Did get the colour matched bar and snorkel though. Hopefully in a week or so it will all be sorted. They said new bar coming our end of July but expect it to be later. I suspect the above white disco with the winch is actually the GM's car (the guy at the shop mentioned it) and that it is the test unit of the new bar not the current one available.

Dmakcorp, which Melbourne OL dealer did you go to? The northern suburbs one I visited a couple of weeks back had no idea what to do or when they'd come out or even if they'd come out and had no idea on price. I too want either OL or ARB bar colour-coded white with a synthetic rope winch, so sounds very similar to your needs. As a firm believer in 'buyer beware, have you actually seen the OL bar 'in the flesh' rather than just pictures? If so, where and I'll make a special visit.
Winch choices?
I am looking at the new Warn Zeon 10S winch which apparently is the latest and greatest and is 'fully sealed' (the sales spiel suggests it doesn't need to be serviced, which sounds attractive but not entirely believable). Anyone had any experiences with these winches, good or bad? They aren't the cheapest but I want it to last a long time (although realistically it will only get infrequent use).

My first time on the forum.
I had an ECB bullbar fitted to my 2015 Disco 4 two weeks ago by East Coast Bullbars in Osborne Park WA. I was advised it was their first Disco 4 fit and they encountered a small issue with the height/spacing of the headlight washers which they solved without too much drama - apparently the ECB folk in Melb forgot to mention that it was an issue and required special spacers. However, they did a great job - it looks great and the all the sensors work a treat. ECB were very professional and I would highly recommend them. Cheers Bryan

I went to the Epping store. Ask for david.
They did fit the bar it's on right now with a set of light force spots. They worked out how to fit the run a winch so will be going on next week. The run a seems too good a value proposition to me. Ol rated it as we'll. $699 for a 12000 rope winch. Just need to get them to rotate the winch and use an offset hawse. Bull bar looks great colour coded. Happy for you to come check It out if u like. I'm in Northcote.

OK "subtle" message duly received. My post was focussed on the availability of the bar in WA, as there are a number of pics of the bar on a Disco on the ECB web site. However, I have now attached two for reference. As an aside, my first quote from another retailer was around $3300, and the quote I went with from ECB in Osborne Park was some $600 cheaper. I should also mention that although they had to do some additional work (ref headlight washers), they stuck to the original quote. Cheers Bryan

Hi Scott
The vehicle came new with 19" rims but because of the limited range of 19" tyres that are available (that suit my activities), I changed them to the 20" rims the folk at Landrover had available in their range. In the Discovery glossy booklet they are called 20 inch Five Split-spoke 'Style 511' .... Cheers Bryan

Did they paint the snorkel !!! I thought polyethylene doesn't accept paint??
I am thinking of a bar and snorkel ... but on a white Sept/oct 2014 D4, I think black looks poor in the city. Outback it looks great though ...

Dropped in to OL Darwin yesterday and whilst they are getting back to me with exact availability of the new bar for the MY14, they mentioned it should be sometime in August.
Question; Does anyone know of a Powder coat colour that matches closely the Nara Bronze or is painting the only option and if so what would be the tougher (read hardness) paint to apply?

You should be able to find a colour that's pretty close with powdercoating. See this chart from a bike repairer who does a lot of powdercoating http://gripsport.com.au/images/uploads/files/Interpon_Color_Chart.pdf

Paint goes over the powder coat. Resulting in multiple layers of protection.
ARB paint in 2 pack.. Not sure if OL..
And powder coating would look odd as it won't match enough.

Just give the powder coater the colour of your vehicle.
Paint code is either on the slam panel or drivers "B" pillar.
