Brad, my only daughter is going on 15 so I can't say if it's normal or not - yet. What I can do is wish you all the best for a great day and hope that the young fella marrying her lives up to your every expectation of who you hoped she would marry.

Best of luck.

Mate, went thru exactly this with my eldest 2 years ago.

Yes, what you are feeling is perfectly normal. Every emotion under the sun.

Happy, sad, scared, upset, worried, hopeful.....

Pack tissues or a couple of hankies.. you will need them.

Enjoy yourself. Make the most of your speech. It is the only time you will manage to get everyone to listen to you, without interruption.

Oh, and watch the drinks until after your speech. Nothing worse than her dad stumbling over it.

It will be a great day, I am sure. You are not loosing a daughter, and if she is happy, then I figured that this guy will do.

Think of it this way you aren't loosing a daughter , your gaining a son in law and your wallet is getting emptied.
Enjoy the day!:D
Seriously,
Of course your happy and sad, you have had your daughter all your life and brought her up, now she's off on her next chapter of life and you will miss her because you care and love her.

.

Not only on that day. Both my daughters continued thinking that my cheque book was their cheque book post marriage.:( Perhaps something for you to look forward to.........

Congratulations, Brad. Dunno if it's normal, our daughter is 30 next weekend and not married nor with anyone.

You can tell your daughter she'll never forget my anniversary.

Too bad I did. Today's our 45th and I wondered why Elisabeth gave me a card and chocolates this morning. :(

Brad,

Yes congratulations.
With any luck, you won't just gain a son in law, in time you'll also gain some grand children.
Now that's the REALLY good part!

The circle of life, Brad. You come to realise she is not your little girl anymore, I'll be very surprised if you don't have a tear in your eye, when you walk her down the aisle, or however the ceremony is performed. The good news, it opens up a whole new chapter in your lives, something to look forward to. And, you have a new member of your man cave, where secret men's business is carried out. Bob :D

You reminded me of a beautiful french song that expresses your feelings.

Anyhow congratulations, wishing them happy years together.

To my daughter

I know that a day will come when life demands
This day that I apprehend, when you will leave us
I know a day will come when sad and lonely
While supporting your mother and dragging my feet
I will come home to a deserted "home"
I will come home to where you are not.

You won't see anything of what is in my heart
Your eyes will be pierced with happiness
And I will wear a grin that you do not know
That resembles an affected smile but isn't one
While hiding my pain, proudly by your side
I will guide your steps no matter what I think or say about it
In the contemplation of a peaceful church
To give you to the man of your choice
Who will strip you of the name that is ours
To give you another one, that I don't know.

I know that a day will come when you will reach that age
When you break lose of the cages, having found your way
I know a day will come, you will reach the blossom of age
And the dawn of your life will rise
And alone with your mother, the day like the night
The summer like the winter will feel a little cold.

And he who knows nothing of the harm that is caused us
He, who won't have done anything for your maturing years
He, who will come to steal, which I am most afraid of,
A piece of our past, a piece of our happiness
This stranger without a name, without a face
Oh! How much I hate him
And yet if he is bound to make you happy
I will have no hateful thoughts towards him
But I will offer him my heart with your hand
I will do all this knowing that you love him
Simply because I love you
The day, when it comes.

Well what a buzz emotionally.
I am still on a high
Would have to be one of my proudest moments walking my daughter down the isle and when I fist saw her in her wedding dress.
Something that will remain with me for the rest of my life.
For those that have been there you know what I am on about, for those of you that will be doing it the future you are in for something very very special.
Thank you for all you kind words it was appreciated....
Brad..:):):):)

So glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, it is a totally different feeling, emotion wise.

For me, it was when we got in the car to go to the ceremony, that it really hit home.

As the door shut on the Range Rover bridal car, and the outside world disappeared into silence, it was very surreal.

And yes, I did mention that we still had time to turn around, and go to the pub... ;)

The moment we were sitting there, following all of the other LR wedding cars, she reached across & held my hand. Not sure who was comforting who, but we stayed that way until we arrived.

Oh, and start baby-proofing your home now. It will take longer than you expect... ;)
