Hi All,
For all of you that aren't aware - a fantastic book on the 101 has just hit the shelves, written by James Taylor.

I purchased mine through "booktopia" but I'm sure it's available from many places:
Booktopia - Land Rover Military One-Tonne by James Taylor, 9781847978912. Buy this book online. (http://www.booktopia.com.au/land-rover-military-one-tonne-james-taylor/prod9781847978912.html)
So far it's been a great read - there is even a small section on the Australian 101's...

I got my copy today.,.........35 dollars delivered.
A fantastic read with some good pics and things I didn't know about the 101 Land rover.
What impressed me most of all is most of the information is accurate.
A lot of publications have many factual mistakes .
This appears to have very few.
Even if you are not a 101 nut ,but like landrovers this book is worthwhile getting.
If you own a 101 I think it is a must have.
For the small amount of money ......get the book.

My book just arrived. :)
Mine gets a mention on page 90 - as one of 43 vehicles transferred from the Army to the RAF.
Many hours of great reading ahead. :)
Yep, I like the pics on page 124 Mick.

Mine gets a mention on page 53... "Production of 101's ended in May 1978 after a total of 2,667 had been built"...... Well, mine was one of those 2667 built!!! :D:wasntme:

I was going to post something similar Simon, but then I realised mine may be in a smaller group that gets mentioned - has a Nokken winch fitted. I just need to try and figure out how to know if it had one from new:confused:.

Just for the record dept... since REMLR is mentioned, JT is our patron. We chatted in 98 (which was hard work as our faces were frozen -not saying Cooma was cold, but it was the first time I'd seen blow flies crashing because of ice build up on their wings).
Our Patron -REMLR (http://www.remlr.com/patron.html)
Wayyy back a 101 owner wrote to REMLR, the very first letter to REMLR ever.
Back then we had an entry in the club section of Just 4WD magazine -or one of those sales mags- and in his letter he's asking for a valuation letter that was official looking to put with his assets for A. bank loan bolster, and B. insurance.
He sent a couple of photos. He was a new migrant from UK and brought over his dearly beloved (the 101) with him, there was a provision in place then that wasn't too much to pay (import tax?)
I had already setup a PO Box for REMLR and then all of a sudden, because of this MOD 101, I had to come up with a letterhead and sort out a logo sort of thing... the first REMLR tac.

Yours has a unique soft top. I think the consensus is the rear door was fitted in service.

No way:eek:. How was that consensus reached? It certainly has all the hall marks of having been there for a long time (hinge wear, seals broken up and cracked, etc) but I had never even thought about it possibly being done in service.

Just remembered. James told me not long after he moved to Australia.
Mark also has a unique 101.
Gavs is one of six (or something like that).

Good on ya Mrs hh. I must introduce you to Mrs JBR one day ... maybe your good habits will rub off on her:wasntme:.
(Actually, truth is I can't complain. Mrs JBR rang me while she was out shopping to ask which magazine I prefer - Land Rover Monthly or LR International. )

I got a copy through last week. Lots of nice pictures etc, but no mention of my 101's past or present.
I must also admit that for all the times I've seen the photo of the IIB coming off the landing craft in the past 22 years, it was only on reading about it in the book that I noticed 'Buttercup' in there behind it. She's in the background of a few other pictures in her more familiar yellow too.
I also picked up on there having been 3 'big lightweights' (2 of which survive) rather than the 2 total the book claims, and the Series 4 speed gearbox being reffered to as an LT77, although they were sometimes known as the LT76 in later Leyland days.
Worth the ?16 anyways.
