Question for the mechanics, I'm assuming that this is my oil pressure switch that has broken off
Do I need to buy a complete new one wire and all or can I just re solder the wire back together?
Also wondering if anyone can recommend a good landrover supplier in Adelaide?
Cheers lucas

Hi Lucas,
Your oil pressure switch is up high at the rear drivers side of your engine block. Normally need a torch to see it. That one looks like the one on the side of the oil filter housing.
Cheers,
Brian.

That looks like a temp sender/switch to me.
Pressure senders/switches have a flat bottom with a hole so the pressure can get in and act on a diaphragm.
Temp senders switches normally have a temp/dic coming out of them into the gallery/tank
Flow switch normally has a paddle on them
Old level switches have a float, new ones have like an inner and outer cylinder Type thing,
Speed senders normally have a completely flat bottom and sometimes long outer casing.
That's all I can think of atm.
I'm sure black night or someone on here will be able to tell you exactly what the part number is, location, manufacturer etc.

I have this same problem cant seem to find oil pressure sender switch ,as theirs one for reverse wired to a relay then their another one just on the filter housing doing nothing wire tied up .
Check the globe behind the dash on the perentie, globe still like new like never been used .
i noticed a hex bit coming out of the block plugged up is this the position for the sender as i would like to screw in a manual type oil pressure gouge .
Reverse light work,s OK so must be oil pressure.
Cannot work it out maybe it never had a oil light from day one , the engine runs great but just for piece of mind maybe you guys have the answer .

2 oil pressure switches.
one drives the reverse lights and the other the idiot light.

I found a dodgy electrical connection to my oil sender unit which I soldered. Because the Redarc boost/ EGT gauge fitted had facility for oil pressure I added the oil sender.
I used a a 1/8 NPT m&f extension & brazed a piece on a slight angle to allow both senders to fit then drilled out & tapped 1/8 NPT, this gives me a digital oil pressure reading & the old idiot light.
Only started out brazing the fitting as I could not get a nipple for straight tee but ended up better as a straight tee & nipple would never have fitted.

Hi Chris,
I would like to fit an oil pressure gauge to my Perentie. What gauge did you fit? What pressure range does the Isuzu 3.9 run at? I was thinking of using a VDO 52mm oil pressure gauge. Just not sure which one.
Regards Warrick.

0-100 psi range for the VDO mechanical pressure gauge. Hopefully mine will arrive this week.
1. The manual I have is a little cryptic, but seems to suggest 99psi at the pump, 64psi at the oil cooler input and 42psi at the oil gallery, so at least these give the sort of range to expect. I talked to an owner with a gauge fitted yesterday who said he had 60psi in all conditions.
2. If you apply pressure to one end of a pipe, and there is nowhere for the oil to go except the sender, in other words, no flow, then the pressure at the sender end of the pipe will be the same as at the engine end. If there is air in the pipe, it will just give a short delay in reaction of the gauge, and this will only be long enough to notice if the pipe is very restricted.

0-100 would be the ideal gauge, mine will idle at 80 cold but drops to 72 warm motor when cruising rising when accelerating, never near 100 psi.

Is the mechanical oil pressure gauge a better set up for a 4BD than the milliamp/electric oil pressure gauges? I have used the mechanical gauges before on other vehicles and know that they are very good but unless you can modify the sender you lose the idiot light on your dash. Just after a few opinions before I commit to one of the options.

no need on the 4bd1, theres 2 senders for on/off type switches and depending on what oil filter setup you have a few other places you can tap and T into to get extra sender locations.
you could for instance tap the oil line fitting for the vac pump on the alternator fit the idiot light to that and then put your mechanical sender in the spot that you just freed up.

Mine will be going in a tee before the turbo oil feed. You could probably do the same with the idiot light sender, it just looked to hard to get too.
I went mechanical to keep with the Perentie reliability theme.

Probably the easiest way to add a mechanical sender unit is to remove the reverse light pressure switch, join the 2 wires and put the mechanical sender in it's spot. It is standard 1/8 gas fitting. And you will still have the idiot light and now have reverse lights without the engine running - if that's any advantage!!

Your battery might go flat if you park down hills haha.
It's easy enough to put a tee on the vac line. Where about is the reverse sender?

On the oil filter housing on the 4x4 and on the end of the brass stalk on the 6x6 turbo motor. It has 2 green wires that go to it, 1 male and 1 female so its easy to join them - just push them together.
