View Full Version : Power at rear trailer socket - amps?

I know this has ben discussed before but i cant find the right answer.

There are two power circuits to the rear trailer plugs. Both are fused in the lower passenger compartment fuse box. Fuse 48 is battery feed and is 15amp. Fuse 54 is ignition feed and also 15amp. This is in a MY15 D4 HSE.

In other posts and wiring diagrams i have seen 20 and 30 amps being stated for these circuits. Has this been reduced down to 15amps or was it always 15 amps?

Just checked Topix & 15MY wiring diagram says:-
Switched (Pin 6 White Plug) = 15A,
Permanent Supply (Pin 4 White Plug) = 30A.

Interesting Sniegy....so why is the fuse 15 amp? I didnt just look in the owner manual (which states 15 amp) but also looked at the fuse in that position. It is also 15amp.

Can I ask what fuse number & location so I can cross reference.
Thanks

Thanks for looking into this Sniegy. The location and fuse numbers are in the first post above. Its got me stumped. I nearly wired up the caravan's electronic stability control to this circuit thinking it was 30amp. Lucky i checked the fuse...i may not have had any stability control on the caravan when i need it the most.

Sorry Pete, I didi read this yesterday & did not re-read the post today.:o

Wiring Diagram Says 30A @ Fuse 48 in the CJB & 15A @ Fuse 54 in the CJB.

This is from 15MY VIN 731301 Onwards.

What does the Owners Hand Book say out of curiosity & also the little icon in the fuse chart on the rear of the glove box?

I am only taking a guess, but someone may have popped the fuse at build & just grabbed a fuse to replace it if the icon & owners hand book say different.

Hi Pete,

The label says 15 amp for both. See picture (if attachement worked ).

My serial number seems to be after the number you gave (it is 7387nn)

Bit of a mystery... Land Rover doesnt seem to do much for us poor Aussies using the discovery for towing....

I've noticed the same thing with mine and also wondered what the deal is.

Both circuits are fitted with 15A fuses, wiring diagram on topix says 30A and 15A

Can someone get back & let me know what the book says out of curiosity.
Have been in/out of work this week & haven't had a chance to look.

I have an MY 14. Here is my owner's manual stating both are 15A.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/10/1005.jpg

And here is my glovebox panel also stating both 15A
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/10/1005.jpg

And I also noted that the actual fuses are also both 15A but no photo.

Bit more of a limitation than previously thought!

Cheers,
Scott

Pete, the book, the sticker near the fuses and the fuses all say 15amp for both trailer circuits.

It seems that only topix and the wiring diagrams suggest higher Amps.

Maybe topix has blown a fuse somewhere :o:D:D

Hmm! Interesting.
Will ask the LR Gods & see what the Big Kahuna says.
Will find out which is correct & why the change.

I am working on the basis that 15 amps is OK for a reasonably well charged battery. Gordon from GOE seems to have used the plug on this basis with no problems for many trips.

As long as you can run a generator or have solar if not driving for a few days should be fine.

Hi Pete,

Have the LR gods come up with an answer? Not pushing, i know things are busy. Would just love to know why this change seems to have happened.

Pete.

Hi Mate,
The Info that was supplied via Topix & Owners manual was sent to the UK.
They are checking with Engineering to make sure all is ok or a boo boo was done.
LRA seem to initially think that there has been a change to do with Quiescent drain & overloading.
So i am in a waiting game with the UK & being Easter no one is in a hurry at present.

Cheers & will advise as soon as i find out.
