Oil leak question

I have found my oil leak (I think)

Found when taking the engine cover off. My questions are:


The name of the parts involved.
To me it looks like the end is frayed and so needs replacing. Am I correct?
Is this a common issue?

I replaced that hose clamp with a screw type hose clamp and solved that leak.
A new hose was going to be over $80 :o

Unless you have recently cleaned it , to me there is very little oil there. They will always weep.
If you have a considerable leak and it is dripping off the bell housing it is far more likely to be leaking from the rear of the rocker cover gasket, just over the back from your photo, usually where the gasket forms a semi circle .
Or of course the fuel pressure regulator.

nothing to worry about as it's only condensed oil vapor and not an actual "oil leak" - i ditched the woven outer hose sleeve that's visible in your pic and replaced the hose clamp on the newly revealed breather hose and all is sweet :D

My hose had a grove worn in it form the lip where it goes on. You might find you can cut about an inch off the end and use the same hose. All you need to do is choose which hose clamp you want to use.

I really hope it is nothing, but I found this same leak on my D2a and it lead me to find I had bad blow by. I honestly don't wish this on anyone, don't jump to conclude the worst. But if you wanted to check out the videos on my thread so you could check for blow by here it is:

I'll have a look at it tomorrow.

Cheers for the advice everyone. Going to take of the pipe, inspect, clean and change the clamp tomorrow. I'll cut back the pipe if the end is damaged.

As for the gasket leak and blow-by issues. I'll wait to see if this resolves the issue first. Start with the simple.

You're not obliged to live with this leaky horribleness.
Its a 3/4" or 19mm ID hose and its over 10 years old.
If you invest in some new hose and a couple of spring clamps, it'll stay dry.
I like the spring clamps. If you get the correct size, they'll make sure that you don't destroy the hose by over-tightening them.
