View Full Version : D2 Fuel Consumption

My V8 seems to get better economy on LPG than on petrol.
Which it shouldn't AFAIK.
In fact it gets about 16-18l/100Km on gas and about 22L/100Km on ULP.
Would this be a sign that a particular sensor is playing up.
Could it also be a sign that there is something amiss with the gas system that is taking the fuel system computer time to readjust to?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
It's in good nick and has new MAF but original O2 sensors.
Thanks in advance.
Ian.

How many Ks?
Any error codes?
You could have dead o2 sensors or drooling injectors, or dead engine temp sensor.
Best to run a check with a diagnostic tool a the first action as Motronic should not be so bad on fuel and they have a good fault reporting system.

Hi,
Thought so. I'll get them to replace the o2 sensors on the next service anyway and make them aware of the consumption fact.
No faults have showed up that weren't fixable in the last while and its had a lot of work done on it.
Cheers
Ian.

Mine runs the exact opposite - 22L/100km on gas, 16L/100km on petrol. I've kept thorough logs and these figures haven't budged.
Is this a recent phenomenon for your vehicle?
I can't see how any sensor would result in a 50% increase in fuel consumption. Is the ECU capable of prescribing such a rich mixture?
Bung injector or a leak elsewhere is my guess.
A faulty coolant temp sensor would likely show up as a hunting idle.

Hi,
No not recent, but because we have a 160l fuel tank, it tends to be a difficult process to get an accurate idea of fuel when we predominantly use LPG.
And it's hard to do a certain distance then fill to the brim. But that's what I'm going to do soon.
It is using way too much ULP. Runs beautifully though. Smooth as a baby's ??..

Get a quote on the O2 sensors beforehand

2 for the price of one over here and genuine Bosch.
just my 2bobs worth.

Yeah, I heard the same. Ford falcon ones that you need to solder the ends on etc..
Also there's meant to be some higher performance ones as well.

Why ? On 160L of LPG it still wouldn't go as far as a rattler on a std sized tank of dieso !!

I would get nearly 900k from 160 of lpg. Would be nice.
