My first disco!

Hey everyone! Well after a long time of wishing I had a Land Rover, I now have a Land Rover!

I found a local disco 2 td5 poverty pack for sale, paid $6500. It's got 248,000kms on it(more then I was hoping), but it has full log book service history and a whole stack of papers showing repairs ect. Mechanically it is spotless, engine bay looks brand new and no oil leaks! aesthetically fairy good, the usual scratches here and there as well as black plastics beginning to deteriorate. It recently(2013), had the auto box rebuilt. Drives pretty good, though I've never driven a td5 before so I have nothing to compare to. I did a stall test to see if it's lost any power and it came right to 2700rpms so I believe that's spot on.

I want to do a full service, as I always do when I buy a car. Does anyone have any recommendations for oils? Specifically for a diesel with high kms. Also was wondering if anyone has an opinion on servicing the transmission? Worth doing?

Welcome and many happy miles to you.
I have always serviced everything at purchase (fluids and filters) - then I have a datum point. Includes auto trans.
Cheap insurance/peace of mind, although not long after doing that to my D2a, my son borrowed the car for a trip to Bunbury (180 km) and back with all highway running and (not his fault) managed to effectively destroy the engine via we think a turbo failure. Such is life!

Also was wondering if anyone has an opinion on servicing the transmission? Worth doing?

If it recently had a transmission rebuild then you should keep up the servicing on the trans to ensure a long life. Transmission kits are easy to buy on ebay. And do a search on here as there are some really good explanatons of a full trans service. Im doing mine this weekend. youtube also has a couple of good vids on transmission fluid change.

Thanks guys! I'm really hoping I don't have any major mechanical failures that I cannot fix myself with basic mechanical skills and tools, as my wallet is extremely tight! So my plan is to do any services and repairs myself provided it isn't too difficult. But so far it all looks fairly simple unlike cars of today so if something happens, I should be okay. But let's hope that never happens.

The only issue so far is a bit of a viabration at around the 2200-2400 Rpm mark and I am suspecting engine mounts(will inspect them today). If it is them, I really hope it's not too hard of a job to do! I imagine the labour costs at a workshop would be painful.

Welcome. Just remember you never really going to have on Land rover.
Once you have driven one. And you understand what they are. You see the prices of other land rover on the market, and understand how to fix them. (I mean maintain them lol). Your car port better have room.
