Changed the engine oil on my 2002 Td5 D2 today and found these sticking to the drain plug.
They look familiar and have a very distinct profile on them.
Any ideas what it may be?
Thanks,

Yes m8, you should prepare the bits and take the front cover off ASAP cos the timing chain's guide and/or tensioners are on the way out, better replace them both if you get there anyway... i've been lucky that the cover on mine was removed cos there was a crack in it and the mechanic was amazed how worn the guide was, the guide and tensioner are plastic that's why, i'm sure that those pieces in your sump are from one of those(or both) cos if they crack they would fail directly into the sump...see the pics what can happen and how they should look

Thanks - glad someone could recognise what they could be. Does look like a match - I can see the guides in your pictures have an edge profile that looks the same.
Plastic bits, hot conditions, and ageing - not a good combination. Interesting when I zoom into the picture I can even see small specs of metal. Did not notice this until I took the picture.
Of course at 480,000kms you know what is going to happen when I start pulling it apart.... (-:

OMG...480.000Km:o... mine had 200.000 when they removed the cover and i took the guide in my hand and broke it like it was chocolate, it was worn badly anyway, the metal bits in your's are from those bushes where the bolts are going IMO, cos at leat those are metal :) (the one in the pic is not from my car jus wanted to show you what can happen and then you are in big trouble)...take a pic from your's when you remove it for future refference ;)
