Oh no just had my 2nd part failure on the D3

First it was top tailgate latch, now its the bonnet struts. Geezzz these D3's are an unreliable car, Toyota would've got a million ks out of those to parts.

Now on a serious note. Are these a replacement thing or are they serviceable.

My miserable ones failed after nine and a half years of mediocre service. I just went to the dealer and got new ones not that exxy can tell you the pn and price later if you want them ean.

Thanks, but should be right. they stay up long enough for me to get my head out of the way, so will make some calls and see how I go.

Mine failed when I was touring with my van which was quite annoying until I found an annex pole that fitted perfectly so I just used that. Can't pull up to a servo in a landie and not open the bonnet ... What would the Tojo owners say :) !!

I lift the bonnet every time I see Tojo owners around, especially in van parks. I always get amused by the experts telling me why I shouldn't have bought a land rover. Especially the ones whose brothers wife's next door neighbours cousin knew someone who had 1.

Thats why I like travelling with my Jeepnik mate - given the choice of Landie and Jeep, the average Tojo owner is so stunned at the rich pickings that they just start drooling and having a nervous tic ... at which point they often drive off and get stuck somewhere, often in a cloud of uncomfortable smugness (kind of like that episode of south park where everyone started driving Priuses and causes an almost town destroying storm of smug to appear).

If I had a dollar for every mechanic that had derided my Landie choices over the years, I'd have a few dollars (definitely enough for a small bottle of Vodka), I particularly like it when I drop off a jap car with a rep for bulletproofness and have the mechanic make snide remarks about the landie giving me a ride home ... to which I have replied "well, that's all very nice, but it's not the landie that's being dropped off to get fixed, now is it?" ... :twisted:

If you are a skinflint like me, you can get cheaper generic gas struts online. Your old ones will have the Newton-Metre rating stamped somewhere, and you will also need the open / closed lengths.

There is absolutely no truth in the rumour that genuine D3 struts are quality tested by their owners, and rated at 1 million cycles!:)

They last about 4 to 5 yrs max on the rear doors on our Toyota work vans:mad:

Some of our Mitsubishi vans are 10yrs old,never changed one.

As others have said,you can get them on the web,cheaper than a rebuild and seem to last around the same length of time as the originals.

MY08 D3, replaced the bonnet struts last year. $60 for the pair I think they were.
