My dash board is making cracking ,squeezing and groaning noises when I go over any road irregularities .
It is a D4 3.0L diesel 1 year out of warranty ........(Just on 4 years old ) .......
I have read somewhere on inet that there can be a de lamination problem with the dash components ...........and this leads to noise
Anyone had issue here and what should be the fix ..........
Thanks a bunch ........

Same issue with noise - tends to come & go. Remember spraying it with silicone spray (damn mess on the windscreen) which didn't help initially but it went away eventually - so no idea if this helped

The dealer can fit an "anti rattle kit". Yes, LR have put one out, as it appears that this could be a wide spread problem.
Considering yours is out of warranty, it still might be worth a phone call & see what they say.
Mine has had it done. Made no difference, so is going back again. But, as it is still under warranty, I want it all documented.
It is only annoying to me. SWMBO doesn't hear it.
Tombie has had the same issue, and has had his dash replaced. However, he now has a couple of distinct "crack" noises, as it settles at the beginning of each trip.

My D4 went in for this to be fixed twice with the anti-rattle kit. Waste of time as it started again on the way home from the dealer. The final fix was to replace the dashboard top. That was all in warranty.
Nat - there should be no rattles in a D4 - get yours fixed before warranty runs out! ;)
Cheers,

I've got it too, i tried silicon spray but it made it much worse
I read somewhere you need to remove the dash completely and pack out with foam etc as the creak is caused by movement at the mounting points
I'm waiting for the weather to get cooler as i figure it's an all day job

My D4 has the odd creak now and then...just turn the radio up?If you get around to finding the cure,it would be handy if it could be written up ....with photos if possible?Like you say, maybe all it needs is some foam/silicone it the right location.

I had this issue in my D4 when I picked it up new. Took it back to the dealer twice who put all sorts of anti-rattle tape on all sorts of things, and even though they proclaimed it was fixed, I heard it just driving out of their yard.
I went back a third time and asked for someone to come for a drive - it was a technician from the work floor, and I felt good when i heard his English accent - he asked politely if he could drive which I agreed. As soon as we got to the driveway of the dealership and the car flexed a little it made the noise and he eagerly said "was that it!?" and when I agreed he said "I know exactly what that is.." took the car back in and said "I'll need it for the day"
Had to pull the whole dash out and reconnect the 3 pieces that make up the dash - that was nearly 2 years ago and i haven't had a squeak or rattle anywhere since

Thanks for that .....sounds like there can be a fix do you know what " reconnect the 3 pieces means". ......do they plug into each other or screwed or what
Had had heard that the problem is related to de lamination of layers in the dash
Where the glue fails after a time ....

Hi DanW,
My first post as I plan to be a D4 owner in the next few weeks.
I come from the Audi & VW side of the tracks so any rattles will no doubt drive me mad.
So to learn from your post that there exists a LR dealer in Brisbane with a genius technician working for them (who can diagnose and fix rattles) makes me feel a bit less nervous about the change to LR.
Are you able to provide me with the name of the dealer?

I'd like to know too.
(although the list of dealers in Brissie is quite small)

Well I had mine in for a service last week.
Mentioned the creak somewhere top centre dash.
They identified it as the top centre dash speaker cover and applied some lubricant.
Problem solved.........for 48 hours.
The creak is back.

Our new D4 started making cracking sounds after a couple of months. Drove me made. At the 1st service I took them for a road-test after having found some roads around the dealership that would do it. They heard it and said they have had a number of these. There is some de-lamination of what they called the 'dash pad' which is how the main dash connects to a bracket that is then bolted to the firewall. They replaced the part and has been silent since.

I had the squeaking dash in my old D4 and the creaking dash on my MY13.
First was fixed easily but required the dash to be removed I believe.
Second was coming from the speaker looking cover in the centre of the dash next to the windshield. Not sure how that was fixed but it quickly was and hasn't returned in over 2 years.

Who fixed it?
Please don't tell me it was the dealership in Fortitude Valley. Couldn't possibly bring myself to gracing their doorstep ever again.

Mmmmm .... it was.
Obviously it's non PC to mention names, and instances, etc., but my dealings have been a mixed bag.....ranging over 5 years, from **** to very good, then very, very good to lately a bit of a dip which is now upward leaning.
It's personality based .... but it shouldn't be!

Hi, reviving a bit of an of thread here and digressing slightly..
Has anyone had a similar creaking / groaning problem to this but with the lower part of the centre console ? I think I've caused it when removing and reinstalling to put cables through for reversing camera and also UHF.
I pulled it off again, made sure all the clips were nicely seated, sprayed silicon spray wherever there seemed to be a contact /rubbing point and it did seem to improve slightly but it's still there and more boisterous when it's hot.
Open to any suggestions - it's very annoying in my otherwise very quiet and solid feeling interior...
Thanks,
David

Hmm,i stay a long way away from the place.
Going there is absolute last resort, if there is no other option.

I have to eat my words mate .... there has been a rapid decline in just the last few months. They are so short staffed and the flow on effects from that is obvious.
Where is your preferred port of call?
Cheers.

A quick update to this. I had a chat to dealer service last time I was in and after explaining what I'd been up to - reversing camera and then UHF installations - a solution was found.
Not always, but sometimes, if the lower centre console (where the gear knob and cup holders live) is put in place after the two side pieces of the upper console (with the air vents in them) it doesn't quite seat properly, such the creaking.
So removed upper side pieces and reinstalled with lower part in place- creaks gone.
Relieved! Beautiful and quiet again.

Hi mate I have the same issue with my D4 2011 Hse when you get around to having a go at the dash I would really like to see how you do it and if need be would be happy to help.
I really need mine fixed just don't want to pay big bucks at dealer for it.
I'm in Brisbane west too.
