This thread is here so we can post up any service bulletins or recalls that maybe relevant to the new defender 07 and onwards..
the idea is if anyone comes accross one if they would be so kind as to forward it on to my self via PM then i will post it up in here.
hopefully the result being, everyone with a new defender knowing about any problems they may need to address with their dealer..and a good resource for anyone that maybe searching the site for info if they are planning on looking/buying or even dreaming about getting a new defender in the future.

For some strange reason (saving some money, possibly), LR decided to replace the traditionale brackets for the A-frame, the ones that are bolted to the chassis, with welded brackets.
Now they have found out that with time (but not much time has passed, one year or so...) the welded brackets may not be up to the job, resulting in the rear axle going astray, with inevitable disappointment of the driver, who finds himself driving a car with a will of its own.
It seems that the first vehicles are exempted, as probably LR still had some of the old brackets as stock, and that later ones are exempted too, as they reverted to the old system; in between, from VIN 736064 up to VIN 752152, all defenders should be inspected and, if the case be, rectified, by welding additional patches to the already welded brackets.
The service action should be carried out by LR workshops as the vehicle comes in for the first useful maintenance service.

‘A’ Frame Suspension Arm
Publication No.: 204-Q055

Model Year: 2009
VIN Range: LD771715 – LD772545
Date of Issue: 03 February 2009
Expiry Date: 28 February 2011
RE: ‘A’ Frame Suspension Arm
Dear Colleagues
In plant quality inspections have determined that on a number of 2009MY Defender vehicles, the
'A' frame top link arm bushes at the chassis bracket location end of the arm can rotate due to a
potential ovality/oversize of the bore in which the bush is installed.
Customers may experience vibration and a noise likely to be a whine.
Action to be taken
At the next service opportunity you are requested to visually inspect and repair if necessary. The
workshop procedure is attached as Appendix 1.
Please ensure all unsold vehicles are repaired prior to handover to the customer.
A number of vehicles have been reworked at the factory prior to dispatch and can be
identified by a white square sticker in the corner of the windshield; no further action is
required on these vehicles.
Please check DDW to ensure that the vehicle is affected by this Service Action prior to
undertaking any rework action. DDW will be updated to reflect only those vehicles
affected. Should you require a listing of the affected vehicles, please contact the Land
Rover Field Actions team by e-mail. All overseas
requests should be forwarded via the National Sales Company/Regional Office only.
At the time of confirming a booking for vehicle repair, please ensure that all
outstanding Field Service Actions are identified to ensure the correct parts are
available and adequate workshop time is allocated for repairs to be completed at one visit

Title Mulitiple Starter Motor Failure
Last Modified 21-JAN-2009 17:43
Category Electrical
Symptom 203000 Basic Electrical
Content
Issue:
Repeat failures on Defender starter motors.
Cause:
The ignition switch can jam causing starter motor failure due to over running.
Action:
If the starter motor has failed check operation of ignition switch;
a) Is the switch jammed through any of its positions?
b) Does the switch fully return to position 2 once cranked and the inhibit operates, not allowing re-crank from position 2?
c) Does the starter motor continue to engage once cranked and key released?
If the answer to any of the above is YES please change ignition barrel as well as starter motor as potentially the starter motor will fail again.
Vehicles post vin. 775971 have been modified and should not demonstate this concern.

Category: Driveability
Symptom: 603300 No Start
Content: Issue:
Non start, poor idle, rough running, P0089-7A and or
P1169-00 logged.
Cause:
Potential water in fuel tank. A small number of service
replacement parts have been returned to engineering
for inspection and in each case the breather / vent line
has been blocked with water / mud / dirt. A blocked
breather / vent line would cause the fuel tank to vent
via the fuel cap. Engineering testing has
highlighted evidence to suggest water is collecting
inside the fuel cap, (via the fuel cap lock barrel), and is
then drawn into the fuel tank during the breather /
venting process.
ActiQn~
This will depend on the severity of the contamination,
the quality of the engine running / performance and
whether or not any DTC are logged and what they
relate to.
Please follow the steps in the attached pdf doc to
determine which course of action to take.
NOTE)
Any vehicle presented to the dealership with DTC
P0089 and P1169 must have the fuel pump and rail
replaced.
DTC other than P0089 and P1169 are not so important
in contamination cases and do not necessarily mean
that parts should be replaced. Please follow normal
diagnosis procedures for other logged DTC. Please
submit an ePQR for reference.

Issue:
Non start, poor idle, rough running, POOa9-?A and or P1169-00 logged.
Cause:
Potential for water in fuel tank. A small number of service replacement parts have been returned
to engineering for inspection and in each case the breather I vent line has been blocked with
water I mud I dirt. A blocked breather I vent line would cause the fuel tank to vent via the fuel cap.
Engineering testing has highlighted evidence to suggest water is collecting inside the fuel cap,
(via the fuel cap lock barrel), and is then drawn into the fuel tank during the breather I venting
process.
Action:
This will depend on the severity of the contamination, the quality of the engine running I
performance and whether or not any DTG are logged and what they relate to.
Please follow the steps below to determine which course of action to take.
If DTC P0089 and or P1169 are logged at the start of the diagnosis actions 1, 2 and
3 below will require completing.
1) Non start I poor idle I running symptoms and no codes logged. At the fuel filter place a
transparent plastic cup under the drain screw and drain a quantity of the contents into the cup,
allow to settle. Look for the presence of water in the sample?
If water is evident remove the contamination, i.e. clean out the fuel tank and low pressure pipes,
replace the fuel filter and refill the system with clean fuel. Renew the fuel tank breather I vent line
and clear any blockages. Reposition the breather I vent line behind the LH rear inner wheel arch
trim panel to protect from water I mud ingress. On Pick Up variants reposition the pipe in board
towards the rear of the fuel tank. Bleed I prime the fuel system, clear fault codes and start the
engine.
If the engine then runs OK and no DTG are flagged It is likely that no further action is necessary.
2) Should the engine still run pooriy after action 1 above, it is likely that the SGV (Suction Control
Valve) on the high pressure pump is contaminated. If this is the case the only action is to replace
the high pressure pump assembly as the valve cannot be cleaned. It is a high precision
component and is not currently available as a separate part.
(Note, the SCV meters the fuel quantity and regUlates the rail pressure. Contamination to the
SCVcauses the valve to stick and therefore cannot correctly regulate the fuel rail pressure).
3) Should DTG POOa9-?A and or P1169-00 be flagged at the start or after actions 1 and 2, this
means the PLY (pressure limiting valve) on the rail has opened due to excessive rail pressure.
This again will have been caused by a contaminated SGV. In these cases both the pump and the
fuel rail must be repiaced (PLV not available separately). (Note the PLV must be replaced if it has
opened as the internal valve seat will be damaged and the return spring will be weakened).
NOTE)
DTG other than Pooa9 and P1169 are not so important in contamination cases and do not
necessarily mean that parts should be replaced. Please follow normal diagnosis procedures for
other logged DTG.

What are the hazards?
Vehicle malfunction
What are the defects?
Vehicle owners may experience reduced performance of the park brake over time and may also see visible signs of a minor oil leak such as oil spots under the vehicle. The loss of park brake is due to the brake shoes being impregnated with oil from the transfer box as a result of a loose flange nut on the output of the transfer box allowing oil to migrate onto the brake shoes.

What should consumers do?
Owners will be notified and instructed to take their vehicles to a Land Rover authorised repairer who in the case of certain 110 and 130 vehicles with heavy duty suspension, will have correct to specification replacement front axle case installed (Recall action P047)
All other affected vehicles will have an additional bracket (Recall action P048) mounted to the end of the axle case tube to ensure that in the event of failure, wheel, hub assembly and suspension is retained. In this condition the vehicle will exhibit an oil leak from the failed weld area and it is possible steering will be less precise, steering may be mis-aligned and off centre steering will be degraded. In this condition vehicle stability and control ability is fully maintained.

Recall issued today for 2015 Defenders re front brake line chafing:
Jaguar Land Rover Australia — 2015 Land Rover Defender | Product Safety Australia (https://www.productsafety.gov.au/recall/jaguar-land-rover-australia-2015-land-rover-defender)
Product description
2015 Land Rover Defender
Identifying features
VIN (Vehicle identification number)
Specific vehicles within the VIN range SALLDWBR8FA461900 to SALLDHRP7FA465615
What are the defects?
The front brake pipe from the caliper to the flexible brake hose is showing signs of a chafe condition.
This has occurred on some Defenders that have been subject to an earlier recall (P053 - https://www.productsafety.gov.au/recall/jaguar-land-rover-australia-land... (https://www.productsafety.gov.au/recall/jaguar-land-rover-australia-land-rover-defender-hub-bolts)). This may cause brake fluid loss. Brake fluid loss will illuminate a red warning triangle on the instrument cluster instructing the driver to seek qualified assistance before continuing.
What are the hazards?
A loss of brake fluid will result in extended brake pedal travel combined with reduced braking performance. Stopping distances will increase. This will also compromise vehicle stability and significantly increase the risk of an accident.

Recall N178
This is from Defender2 site.
2011 Model 2.4 Defender- Diesel Emissions Upgrade Report post
Received a letter today from Land Rover, saying 2011 Defenders no longer meet regulatory emissions limits, and offering a software update free of charge, don't know weather to bother as it may affect performance, has anybody else had this notice.
DEFENDER2.NET - View topic - Recall N178. (https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic68560.html)
Here is an article on the recall.
Jaguar Land Rover downplays possible side effects of emissions recall (https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/jaguar-land-rover-downplays-possible-side-effects-emissions-recall), but no mention of Defender, so it must be very recent.
...….and this is my post on the subject on Defender2.
This is how they want to tackle the issue.
JLR has made it clear to owners that the recall will not affect power outputs and has released information about what side-effects to expect. On gasoline cars, the stop-start function might operate at lower engine temperatures. Diesel cars could get noisier on cold-starts and could idle at lower revs at junctions. JLR also said owners of diesel cars could see higher consumption of the AdBlue urea additive that reduces exhaust NOx levels. JLR said that “all of the changes have been reviewed and agreed with the VCA,” meaning the certification agency is happy the cars will return to the agreed certification figures
"Lowering the idle speed on diesels is likely to be a simple fix to drop the fuel consumption by a few grams, but that could affect drivability of the car. “Manufacturers don’t like their car to idle at excessive revs, because it raises CO2, but there is a limit to how far you can bring them down. Too low and the car starts to sound rough and it affects drivability,” Archer said.
JLR disputed Archer’s claims lowering the idle speed will mean that the cars will be trickier to drive. “The reduction in idle speed is not going to introduce any drivability concerns,” the company said in a statement. “The engine management system ensures that all of the required anti-stall devices are employed to mitigate any drive take-up engine rev deficiency.”
Here's the full thing.

I don't see the Defender mentioned on this recall list.

https://car-recalls.eu/make/land-rover/
Mine is a 2011 2.4. I suppose it is being lumped into the same emissions category as the 2011 2.2. This seems a little unfair as the 2.2 has a DPF in the emissions system. As of yet I have had no recall letter (Ireland) but if there is a European rollout it could come later.

So is it right to assume the affected vehicles all have a DPF? If so, my 2009 Defender, which doesn't have a DPF, should be unaffected, I assume.
