Yesterday I was poking around my 2011 3.0L D4 HSE with the wheels off checking brake pad wear and generally being far too inquisitive. I have begun to wonder about air bag and shock absorber life (126,000km) so was taking particular note of these items. It was then I saw a few very grubby 'stickers' on the air bag outer metal casing. I cleaned the stickers off and to my surprise the front air bags and I assume shocks were manufactured / assembled in 2008. The rear air bags and shocks were dated 2009.

According to some I am getting on a bit and not well educated so I might not have this correct but I always thought that the D4 had different rated shocks to that of the D3 or was that front control bits I am confusing with shocks etc?

Am I right in thinking the shocks were/are different to the D3? Cause' if I am it begs a few more questions.

If I am wrong then no harm done and I can go back into my normal daze.

D3 shocks other than MY05/06 versions will fit a D4 however the valving is different. Did you purchase your vehicle new or s/h?

Do you see 2013, 2014 or do you see a date that ends with .13, .14?
My 09 build D4's original air-springs have 09.10.13 and 09.10.14 - yy.mm.dd format.

My D4 was purchased Brand New in Sept 2011 32km on the clock when driving out of the show room!:) See the picture of a smiling salesman as he hands over my brand new D4.

Martin,

I thought I was getting a reasonable deal at the time but I must admit to that nagging doubt! Mind you the D4 has been a great vehicle to drive and own:cool:

Graeme,

Thanks for your explanation. I have checked the dates (pic of FR air strut) and with your information it now makes sense.:o
