I'm just in the process of re-painting the air filter assembly for my Dormobile and a few 'rivet counting' questions came to mind.
Most I've seen are painted black but the Dormobile (1965 UK production) and IIa GS (1970 Australia production) have silver, hammer finish air cleaners. Was there a point that they changed colours ?
The picture below shows a 6-cylinder air cleaner (Series III FFR) on the left and a 4-cylinder on the right. The 6-cylinder air cleaner is taller and the top section has taller slots.

Was this an Army 'thing' or was the 6-cylinder air cleaner bigger ?
I've noticed in the past that the latches on the lower section changed during Series III. They switched from a latch made of pressed parts (above right) to one that uses clips made of wire (above left). Again, was there a known point when this changed ?
You can tell I've been stuck in the shed most of the day (due to the rain), I think I need to get out more.
