Gutted, found a 72' SWB landy (something I'd been searching for for a while).
Spoke to the seller and told him I'd take it sight unseen. I offered to come over and pay straight up but he said it was North of Perth and would I like to drive up and take a look after work. I agreed asking that I'd take it regardless but wouldn't mind the drive and to see my purchase.
Said I'd bring the dosh with me.
So.... Today I text the guy to say I'm in my way and get a reply saying he has sold it for more!!! Huh?!
He claimed to have called texted me but the guy gave him the cash so he took it!!
Totally gutted...

Yep know how you feel. Had a similar thing happen to me a couple of years ago when I started looking for a jag. Gutted at the time but soon got over it and now have a very nice specimen in the garage which is mechanically in much better nick.

I'm sure that another one will appear soon which will fit your specs.

Cheers

Steve

Yeah, I have no doubt one will.
Hard for me to understand why people do stuff like this for $200 more. When I give my word I don't break it, even when I probably should..

I agree, Cliffy. My word is my bond.

It'll work out for the best mate - Karma has a way of working things out for the better. You could buy DeeDee and have a S2a instead!:wasntme:

Haha.
Nah, what's happened is I have been stalking my first car (a 69' SWB) for about 20 years....but after a recent search I have come to realise that she's probably scrap.
Soooo......I'd like to find another 69' shortie or a 72' as it would be the same age as me. 2a preferred for the 72'.
C'mon Landy God!

Ah okay. I know exactly what you're up to. If I ever came across a S2a that was a '65 I'd be hard pressed to not buy it! I have a '64 but it's too far gone to restore. If it was a '65 I'd probably do it:angel:. DeeDee is a '70 so doesn't work for either of us really.
Very hard to find a S2a from '72! Everyone was buying S3's by then.

Yeah, a 72' 2a would be hard but I have seen them. I had a real early S3 for about 5 days (before it went back to the dealer). Didn't even have a heater fitted!
So a 69' would be good too! Also another SWB ex army of any age. The time for selling is over!

I had the same problem with series bits and pieces, seems to be happening more regularly.

I ended up with a 2a shortie which is currently starting a ground up rebuild - this is my first ever series :)

Not like it was a fortune, could the guy have not called you and told you he had been offered more. I personally would have just told the next caller it was sold, but at the very least he should have given you first refusal.

Ha, I own a moke that was built 3 months before I was born, 1972 also. It was my first car. I can't bring myself to sell it...

I buy and sell stuff occasionally, always sell on a hand shake even if they don't pick it up for a day or so.

Have fun,
Chris

Capitals are shouting. Big text is for those with numerous years and poor eyesight.

Andy, pulled into Williams with every intention of saying G'day a couple of weekends ago but we ended up meeting some army friends going the other way and got lost in catching up and critiquing the G wagon so time slipped away. I think I might know the owner of that workshop but not 100% sure.

Boog, the only thing we have in common is a big voice when we are angry!
I have all the DVD's. Was one of my fav shows as a kid when all you got was ch2.
Thank god for Dr Who, the Goodies and Monkey Magic!

Yeah, you would think so?! But no, just a message on my voice mail just after I texted him to let him know I was on my way to pick him up.
