View Full Version : Do you think Defenders (last year production) will depreciate less?

My missus brought this one up (she really is pushing the new option..)
She mentioned my friend who has a F350 which is worth more than he paid for it as you cant buy a new one. (actually things may change as they will soon be importing new F trucks again). Anyway that is how a woman's mind works always crunching the numbers..
I it was an interesting point though and I wondered what you guys thought?

I don't think you'll notice much difference, one way or another.
Even now, with Defender finishing production in around 8 months, & final ordering dates a lot shorter than that, there's still deals to be done, & I ain't seen much difference in used pricing either.
What you could see, in a couple of years, is that low mileage, little used Defenders in original condition, could have some appeal, as new ones will not be available.
But ya gotta be realistic, the Defender is not that popular over here, and I don't think there'll be any difference in depreciating values, than what has been seen over the last few years.

True, they many not be that popular over here but there are still quite a few sold, in the next few years if someone wants a new one they cant have one. My friend with the F truck could have basically sold a 10 year old truck for what he paid for it a a couple of years ago simply as there were no more new ones. It will be interesting to see what happens.. I dont think the prices of older td5's ect will change just like the older F trucks they are still cheap, it was just the last produced F trucks that went up in price. It will be interesting to see what happens anyway..

Hi Chris , I don't have any involvement with the Auto industry . I think that the second hand market , is controlled by there book price , buy sell against new price . As we know there is only a small market for Defenders , compared to other models of 4x4s . As we know they do loose value , year by year , but compared to some vehicles the Defender shines . I could be that we that own then are prepared to pay the market prise , even higher in some cases . The ford f100 is a bit like that as well . If Land Rover's get the new Defender right , in design , motor's choice , and price . It could well effect the current model price , as buyer's choose the new Defender . I think that if the dealers don't wont the older models , they may well push prices down . Chis It is a good question , as I have a new Defender on order . The next model didn't deter me , I suppose time will tell !!..Jim

Supposed to be mid this week, but the dealer said it is going to be late next week before a test drive... What is the price you can expect with negotiation for a new 110 Defender?

Hi guys I have been actively following the defender market for over a year now. They seem to hold their value very well. In my opinion if the new Defender is something like the DC100 concept expect the old ones to be in high demand. On the other hand if they come out with a better vehicle that retains the live axle and diesel engine combination and get rid of the bugs in the current one then things can change. LR are very tigt lipped about releasing any details regarding the new Defender. I am confused wether to jump in now and get a D90 or wait for the new one to be released. I am a Jeep owner. When the JK Wrangled came out it affected the resale of the older TJ Wranglers. Now my current club is predominantly JK Wranglers....

Get a "self specced" new D90 while you can.
Even if you want to sell it, you ain't gonna lose telephone numbers, and on the other hand, if you don't allow yourself the "Joy" of owning a new Defender, well that is something that you may well live to regret?

Probably going for one at the end of the financial year. A white D90 with a towbar, Snorkel and Rocksliders......

Good stuff, but be very sure that you don't leave your ordering too late.
Production finishes on 20th December 2015, I've heard by some UK guys that "Final Order" dates have been quoted at some time in June.
There are only so many Defenders that can be built before December, & with demand well up on previous years, a final order date could be,..who knows?
On the other hand, a white D90 such as you are talking about could probably be sourced from Dealer stock as the options you mention would be be Dealer fitted, not quite sure who fits the snorkel though, Dealer or factory,...I don't know!
