I have been looking around for a suitable LED Light Bar to go on our new TDV6 which will shortly have an OL Triple Loop Premium Bullbar fitted.
Got onto a site called Led Light Bars Australia and oh my gosh - there are heaps of different types and configurations and now I am not sure which one I want.
I had in mind that I needed a combination of low spread out light and also a far distance spot light - similar to the Lightforce Genesis 210mm Halogen lights that I currently have on our Patrol. However what length and what power output and how many rows of LED's? Do I need 100w, 120w, 180w or 240w?
The Lightforce lights are 100w which I find a bit on the low side - so I am thinking 120w or 180w and a 20" bar (only because it looks like it will fit neatly in the middle of the bullbar).
So considering these thoughts, the model that looks appealing to me is the Aurora 20" Off Road LED bar 20" 120w Aurora Off road LED light bar (Combo Beam) ALO-20-P4E4B - Led Light Bars Australia (http://www.led-light-bar.com.au/product/aurora-led-light-bar-combo-120/), which is claimed to light up the entire forward viewing area - how far though is not stated. Also I couldn't find anything mentioned about how strong the front face of the bar is and what protection there is against stones etc. The Lightforce lights have a very good tough plastic cover that will withstand severe impact.

Now finally to my question - what LED light bar have others fitted to their vehicles and would the Aurora 20" 120w model be adequate, or is there a unit that LR owners recommend over anything else?

Thanks for your assistance in advance.
ps: I decided to go with an LED light bar because it seems to have a more efficient power technology than what I currently have and the output is supposed to be much brighter.

Shop for LED Lighting / Light Bars - Snake Racing (http://shop.snakeracing.com.au/led-lighting/)

I have a big snake racing LED bar on my roof rack. It is several years old. Honestly I think the light it puts out is amazing but the light from my Disco 3 has better range. My LED bar is helpful when in the bush in some circumstances and also when wanting to see foxes and roos in padlocks as it has a little more spread ( combo spot and flood on my bar).

I would try to look at any you are considering on a night with a non reflective object 1km or more away. Your lights on high beam might beat most LED spot light options.
The lights on my mates patrol are no where near as good as my stock D3 ones!

I would not mount LED spot lights on a new Disco again unless it had more range than the stock High beam, LED flood might be helpful but I would mount them out to the sides not straight ahead next time.

Other issue:
1-for long range night driving which I do a few times a year is that my LED Light is a little harsh on eyes and often needs to be turned off if approaching any reflective surfaces such as signs.
2- Wiring loom on mine needed to be beefed up!!! Melted a fuse and casing on the one supplied!
3- be very circumspect of the claims made by the sellers

Most LED lights I have tried do give lots of light, but the road is so brightly illuminated close up that it is a bit blinding, and distance vision is swamped by the brightness of the close distance.

I see on ebay that Osram LEDs claim to be genuine spots, but I have not tried them.

Hmmm - lots of food for thought here. May not be as clear a decision as I thought it was going to be.
I now understand why people are still sticking with halogen lights.

Yes. I've got a 40 inch Baja Designs single row LED bar mounted under my roof rack.

Make sure you mount it far enough back to ensure that your bonnet is "in shadow" otherwise the glare off the bonnet will be a pain in the proverbial. I have a Frontrunner full length rack, and the light bar is mounted between the front pair of legs - works perfectly. ;)

Almost redundant now isn't it

Do the HID upgrade on your Lightforce spotties, won't need an LED lightbar then:cool:

Dad runs a Rigid Industries 40" LED light bar and swears by it reckons he love it and the best one I've seen and I've travelled with a few mates who have them and it seems to be the better one!! But they are made from tough aluminium and bullet proof front cover also all the seals are full made especially for the light and they are screwed every 10" for waterproof!!

Decided to go with the LightForce LED 215 Spot and Spread Combination lights after reading some of your helpful responses.
Also looked up Alan Whiting's YouTube video of the lights in operation - very effective long range lighting with wide near distance spread.
Thanks for your opinions and help.

Many on here swear by Fyrlyts:

Welcome to FYRLYT Driving Lights (http://fyrlyt.com/)

Tombie on here can give you a lot of back ground on them. Better than Light Force apparently.

Pretty close to it. ;)

Really does nothing much now other than change the "colour" of the light in front of the car, particularly at close range.

I drove back from Perth last night - home at about 9:30pm. This was the first trip with the Fyrlyts.

Having previously done the same trip with Hella Predators, Britax X-Ray Vision and Lightforce (all HID) on various vehicles, I can honestly confirm that the Fyrlyt Nemesis lights EASILY out performs any of the above.

My only criticism of the Fyrlyts (and it is only a minor one) is that even with everything tightened up as much as possible after setting / adjusting the lights, it is still quite easy to move the lights, either sideways or up / down. Their mounting system, while solid and simple, is not as secure as some others I have experienced before. I don't see this as a major drama though, as I'm currently looking at a couple of possibilities on how to secure the mounting better.

Would still recommend these lights to anyone though. My young bloke wants a set for his Amarok when he buys it.

My question is how do you wire the lights you have attached to the roof Racks? Where do you run the wiring?
TIA,
Wayne

I have been running Fyrlyts on my Vogue for about 18 months now. Never had one move unintentionally. What are you using to tighten them? An allen key isn't enough for the horizontal bolt.

Mine is run under the cover on the lefthand side of the windscreen. It pops off and there is room for the wire, Tight!

You Could go RHS windscreen or other options which I wouldn't such as drilling a hole in the roof

Wiring on mine runs along chassis to rear of vehicle, then up alongside the tailgate and onto roof where it goes into left side channel, then up the inside of left rear leg into the roof rack. Then runs along the inside of the left side rail of the roof rack.

No holes drilled, and you can't see the wiring anywhere on the vehicle (except when tou have the tailgate open).

I've used a hex driver that's part of one of my socket sets, and the ratchet handle from the socket set.

Got the horizontal bolts as tight as I can, but can still move the lights with very little effort. I could probably put a cheater bar over the ratchet handle for a bit more leverage, but not too keen on this idea. Knowing my luck, I'll break something.

My suggestion for stainless bolts is to lubricate them with suitable anti seize paste, that allows them to reach their design clamping load without shearing off.
