View Full Version : RWC Inspector - Melbourne - East side

I am helping the current owner of a 1970 Series IIA SWB to get a RWC so that I can buy the vehicle. Odd arrangement I suppose, but we have been friends a long time. He is keen to sell it to me. I am keen to buy it, but I need it to be in RW condition before purchase. I don't have unlimited funds so a ground-up restoration is not something I can contemplate.

The vehicle is currently registered and has already had a lot of work done by the current owner. I want to spend what money I have in making a few changes so that I can use it to get back into the bush for camping and photography.

I am looking for recommendations for mechanics businesses that have RWC certification AND have some expertise with the older Landy models. I have read a few horror stories of RW Inspectors with no idea about the original ADRs for old Landies or, indeed, anything built after 2000 demanding ludicrous standards.

I can highly recommend Brian Smith automotive in Diamond Creek, not quite eastern burbs but Brian is a great bloke and an old school mechanic that owns and works on older vehicles.
Another forum member was having trouble with a rwc provider near by and after going to Brian it was sorted in a few days.

Thanks guys. Not really that far away. Just up past the Ring Road entrance. Easy. Will give him a call next week and get the vehicle to him for a pre-RWC look-see so that I can get an idea what it's all going to cost.

is the car for a daily driver? if not would you consider Historic reg?

Between the rain, the non-functioning wipers, and the "rest of life's travails", I have only got vehicle to Brian Smith today. Hell of a nice fella. He is going to have a good look, tell me what if anything needs doing for RWC and what if anything needs doing otherwise. [Did you like the way I optimistically said "If anything needs doing"? As if.]

Basically its limited to certain amount of days per year via a log book, I think you can nominate two separate numbers of days per year (one is 90 days) permit is $76 per year, a lot cheaper then reg. You have to be a member of a club, but a lot of people I know have now got H reg for their classic.

45 days is $71.20 then you can pay extra for an additional 45 days making a total of 90 days maximum each year.
A logbook has to be filled out for each day you drive it. Can't be used for commercial gain.
You need to find a Club that operates the CPS scheme and will admit your vehicle (some Clubs have strange requirement before you can go onto CPS).

Big savings if you can live with 90days usage per annum.
