Just a heads up on interference in td5 cars( defender in this example),my radio was basicaly unusable when moving .
Long story short I was trying a taped whip on the pasenger side bull bar ( far away from abs and injectors as can be ) bingo 70 to 80% reduction in noise. I can now converse with Adelaide and swan hill without issue and Alice and charters towers on a weather dependant basis....am I happy??
Yes I am lol
I'm figuring it's the injectors that cause the rfi

Mark,

You are correct, the injectors are the cause of the rfi, just take your foot off the throttle going down hill and the interference virtually disappears since the fuel is shut off.
Whilst not an HF expert I consulted a few that are and consequently put my antenna on my 130 at the rear as far from the engine as possible with the top of the auto tune casing flush with the roof of my alloy tub cover. I also pulled the engine wiring loom and encased the injector cables in copper braid tube covered with foil tape from the cylinder head plug to the ecu under the driver's seat, with a suitable earth connection at both ends.
Whilst still not perfect the interference was significantly reduced and the radio became usable whilst the engine is running.

I might have to rig up an antenna on the rear just to see..... Although I can hear the bases I would usually get through to easily....
