Hi

Thought I'd start a thread for my restore. Got hold of 2 S1's and hope to get one fully restored using bits and pieces from both.
I have found what looks like a chassis number which best i can tell for now reads R06113326.
Can anyone tell its build date from this.
It has the earliest type dash like on the 1950 model. The seat backs are square and it has two front park lights on the firewall edge just above the trailing edge of the front fenders.

Photo's comeing soon when I get the camera organised.
Cheers

Graham

As above. And with the square seat backs, it will be a late '50 with a narrow transom on the tub. That's the front of the tub behind the seats.

Earlier models have a wider transom and pointed seat backs as the most obvious differences.

That serial number is towards the end of the full grille, lights behind grille models which finished at serial no 1546 according to the parts catalogue
Would love to see pics :)

Got pix on my IPAD though I have no idea how to post them from it.

Will have to wait until I get the camera organised.

Hi Graz,

Are you sure that is the correct chassis number?

R06113326 Doesn't show up on the Faulls records but 06113322 does and also 06113328 which were both West Australian vehicles originally.

I've cleaned up the chassis rail and can now confirm the chassis number is R06113328.

You can pretty much guarantee that a 1950 Land Rover has the chassis number stamped on top of the LHS engine mount bracket.

The change in the number position at Annand & Thompson happened sometime either in or soon after 1951.

Square backs. 1950?

Being pedantic, the seat squabs (backrests) changed from the fixed at the top (shovel type) to the hinged at the bottom (spade type) at (L&R)06110305, this is the time when the transom between the tub and the driving compartment narrowed allowing a little more room for front seat occupants. Both types of squab were rounded at the top.

The square squabs were introduced early in 1952 at 26102281 and 26161500 and 26660355.

Of interest is the fact that the square squabs were pretty much a failure and the earlier design squab and hinge, first introduced in 1950, were re-introduced for the 1954 model, although with increased padding.

This weekend..........I feel a bit embarrassed like that. :(

My ex-RACQ 80" was planned for completion for the Land Rover 60th in Cooma. Well life happened and both a tennant in an investment flat and my house mate stopped paying rent at the same time late 2007 so for the next four months I was paying everything with no funds to complete the remaining tasks like preparing and painting the body. When it didn't get to Cooma, I lost interest BIG TIME. :BigCry:

Last year I had to move off our recently sold family farm, in the relocation some parts are absent without leave. :o

All is not lost however, this weekend it's onto a trailer and off to Harry at the Ho Hars for painting! :) How could I have a RACQ road service Landy painted in NSW! ;)

Will need to gather some bits and pieces that are missing or too damaged.
So far:
I am after two straight front guards.

Its missing the fuel tank. I have a tank out of an 1956 shorty. Does anyone know if this is the same part number tank or can it be used as an alternative?
Thanks

Hi Steve. That prefix is the build number. Not that important.
