View Full Version : RRS height fault logging

I test drove a 2010 RRS TDV6 (3.0) yesterday and twice in about 5 kms it spontaneously came up with a dash warning "only normal height available", which went away when the car was turned off and turned on again.

The car did have a slow leaking front left tyre, could that have triggered a height adjust lockout? The dealer basically doesn't believe me and says that nothing was logged by the onboard computer. Is that even possible?

A fault would normally be stored for this message, for which the most common cause is a failing compressor. If raising the vehicle then 'raising slowly' messages would be seen and for several weeks prior to the 'normal height only message', but going for a test drive with the vehicle already at normal height only triggers minor height adjustments and topping-up the reservoir, which if it takes too long will trigger the 'normal height only' message.

A soft tyre will usually trigger a brake system fault which sets various dash lights on and the vehicle will lower to about access height. As this seems not to have occurred, the earlier failing compressor is most likely.

Its very surprising that no fault has been stored. Did the dealer check both the ABS and suspension ecu for stored faults?

Thanks for confirming my suspicion, Graeme, I thought that would be the case regardless of the cause. The dealer is non-Land Rover and said he got it checked by the LR dealer, I don't know if they checked all the ECUs or at all, but I suspect the guy is a tad full of it.

That said, the car didn't seem to have any trouble going up and down in good time on the spot, although it was a bit jerky. A shame I don't trust the guy, the red is such a nice colour...

Perhaps you should take the vehicle for another drive to see if the fault re-occurs. IIRC a new compressor can be sourced and fitted for around $1200 but if the fault is caused by something else then the fix is not likely to be very expensive. Anyway, I suspect there should be some statutory warranty if something does need fixing in the short term.

I may have had a little falling out with the dealer... Not put off by issues but the first step is admitting you have an issue, right? :-) Thanks again.
