Hi
I am going to pull the Plenum and Trumpet base off my engine to fit the SuperFlow Intake Trumpets and hopefully to fix the issue with low vacuum at idle.
In RAVE it says to use Loctite 577 which is a thread sealant. On rr.net they suggest using Permatex 77 which is a silicone based sealant.
Alternative for Loctite 577 for the Plenum cover? (http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/7-range-rover-mark-ii-p38/11926-alternative-loctite-577-plenum-cover.html)
Rupert Prior suggested a Hylomar style product so I used Permatex Aviation Form-a-Gasket on the Plenum last time.
The ACT Trumpets come with a Thermal Gasket for the trumpet base, so I am only concerned with the Plenum.
So I am wondering what others use for this application?
And if I still have low vacuum after that exercise it's off with the inlet manifold :o

Ron used an anaerobic sealant on his yesterday. I think it was a Permetex brand.
It did look an awful lot like red Loctite though.

Anaerobic Gasket Makers & Flange Sealants : Permatex? Anaerobic Flange Sealant (http://www.permatex.com/products-2/product-categories/gasketing/anaerobic-gasket-makers-flange-sealants/permatex-anaerobic-flange-sealant-detail)
He bought his from Supercheap.

Hmmmm I didn't use any sealant on my plenum after replacing the head gasket and the vacuum seems fine

Hi Mate
I am probably being too optomistic here, I suspect it will be the inlet manifold causing the issue
However since I have the trumpets and the Gen III injectors to fit, I thought I would try this first since it is not a huge job

Gidday All a newbie [but oldie]
The p38 range rovers all had low vacuum at idle caused by a large over lap on the cam shaft hence low vacuum
I have had 3 or 4 p38s and they are all the same
In regards to sealing the phelum advise from other members is all good

Ho Bruce
Any idea what the numbers should look like?
I am suspicious because as the engine warms up the vacuum improves a bit, so something seems to be getting tighter and closing a gap
