Hi all now i have your attention,

I have noticed a few defender owners around lately and always get and give the wave which is great but i would be keen to catch up and plan some 4x4 trips with other members there are some awesome tracks to be driven all around and was hoping other like minded people would like to get together and tackle a few.
My name is Mick i live in Burnie i drive a 1997 white 110 fully locked and loaded :cool: and enjoy fishing prospecting and camping i am 36 with kids and a misses and keen to use my defender to explore this awesome state so if there are any other members who enjoy these activities and are interested in getting together let me know, just imagine where a few defenders could take us.:)

Hey Mick I'm in the south of Tassie I've got an my12 defender recently moved down from the mainland always keen to meet new people with similar interests. I'm also married and got a few kids. always keen to explore some tracks, camping and trout fishing, cars not got a lot of mods yet but seens to go pretty well out of the box. if you got anything in mind let me know.

hi Ben how are you mate i have always wanted to do the Ring river track and the Balfour track but there is pleanty off other tracks about and the more defenders we can get the better. do some research on tasmanian 4x4 tracks and let me know if there is any that take your liking and we could meet up and drive a few.
most tracks in tas are a great adventure and offer some of the worlds best scenery. I dont go bush bashing but do like a challenge, i like to have an adventure then wash off the mud and plan another one. :D

I'd be keen for some trips with fellow Landy owners, Tassie sure does have some magnificent scenery and tracks and its always nice to get out and explore them, especially with like minded folks!
My name is Remo, I'm from the Sheffield area and drive a 95 110, not hugely modded yet but is pretty capable all the same.

The Ring River is a good trip, my older brother did it a number of years ago and liked it. Ive done the Montezuma track which was great and would have loved to go the Ring River as well but I didn't have the time nor feel equipped enough to tackle it on my own. Don't know much about the Balfour track but it is meant to be great from Ive heard..

And Ben is 'The Yeti' the name of your Def? Thats what my missus affectionately called my 110 when I first bought it five odd years ago and the name has stuck!

Hi Remo how are you, yes montezuma is a nice track was there last week and there was plenty off water going over the falls.I feel the same as you we need the safety of numbers to do the major tracks in Tas. There are plenty you can do alone but i would feel safer with more Defenders on the big ones.
so come on Tassie how about a convoy trip full of DEFENDERS. ;)

Good day to all landy owners in Tas. We are in Latrobe And our2002 xtreem sits in the Main Street most days right in front of the picture frame shop which is ours. Like others our poor old Landy is very capable. We are keen fly fishers and we have a shack up at Great Lake. We sadly don't get the exersize our Landy all that often other that tow our boat to the shack. Would be nice to do something with a bunch of defenders. I've done the Sandy Cape and the Balfour Track was a good trip happy to do it again, had puddles in my foot wells but base rocky and hard and not too silty. Also nice trecking out to the Julian Lakes not hard but super rocky track be nice to take some rods and a kayak out there! Theyre both over night trips, yet to to do falls and ring road think climes looks nice too.

My Defender flat tray resides at our place just out of Brighton. It was originally brought to carry the load that became too much for my HJ Holden work ute.

Finer detail; 300 TDi, Warn winch, Bull bar, Canopy fitted to the flat tray with lift up sides assisted by gas struts and various Two-way Radios that get changed around to suit the needs at the time.

It rained last night and the Lichen got a drink, I have a healthy patch growing above the windscreen, do I wash my Land Rover --- sometimes --- the underneath more than the topside. :p

The Defender has been on outings on a fairly regular bases, mostly with the Hobart based, Land Rover Owners Club of Tasmania which I am a member of. But then sometimes shows up by itself coming out on some impossible track loaded up with Ladder's and working equipment :D.

Had a couple of hiccups with the mechanics, the head had to come off when it blew the headgasket, I discovered the wrong head bolts holding the head down, they were only holding by a couple of threads!
The Gearbox was swapped out with a reconditioned one when I decided to rebuild the centre diff thrust washers that were clunking, this was done when the clutch suddenly gave trouble and when the clutch was pulled down, no fault was found :confused:, the reason came to light when the old but good throwout race was needed for another job and I found the alloy bearing guide had a distinct wear shoulder in it that was preventing the throwout race releasing the clutch properly.

The Defender kept blowing the reverse / brake light fuse intermittently, eventually I traced the problem to the tail lights that are fitted to the flat tray, it seems water has made it's way inside the light assembly and caused corrosion to short out the bulb holder and the manufacturer of these light assemblies? ---- Toyota ! flat mount lights made for the FJ45 flat tray. :censored:

Very much a part of the family now, the Defender has made it's way to the 60th anniversary of Land Rover and carted back to Tassie all sorts of goodies after a successful scrounge trip to the Mainland. The rear body will be having a quick hitch / slide that will be fitted under the flat tray soon, so the tray can be swapped for a tub body with an expanding canopy fitted out for long distance camping. So we are looking forward to some great trips in the future in our Defender.

If you are going past, call in for a chinwag as the jug is always on for a cuppa. and don't forget to wave when you are on the road!

well i had a look at the climes track, yes Ben it does look good and was thinking we could also do the pieman heads track since we will pop out at Granville harbor, it would be an over night to do both if any one is keen to swag it we could even hop the barge to Corina and up to the Balfour track via the Western explorer Hwy then back threw Sandy cape to Arthur river.

This would be an epic trip and would require q bit of planing, but i would be keen to give it a crack and would love to do it with a convoy of defenders so lets see if we can gather a few more people and make it a reality and arrange a date i was thinking SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER to give people time to prepare and service there Defenders before the big event any feed back for dates and trip plans will be good,
if any one also wants to do day trips on other tracks let us know i will be keen:D

I'm a ferry ride away from Tassie and will be down there for a 2 week trip start of december, cant wait. I've been looking at mainly exploring the north west coast- ive heard nothing but glowing reviews. Is december a good time of year to travel down there? Cheers

1. Arthur River to Sandy Cape and camp o/n

2. Sandy cape return to balfour track then western explorer to corina over the barge and camp at Granville Harbour o/n

3. Climes track to Trial Harbour

there is also the Pieman Heads track, that could possibly be done before the Climes Track.The Montezuma and Ring River track is just 5min out of Zeehan and could be possible if we was to do a third night.

these are just ideas i would love to hear from others and there opinions of times and if they are happy with distances please research these tracks on explore oz .com for all distances and track conditions and let me know via a private message if you would be interested so i could keep track off numbers .

All sounds good to me my October is full with visitors. I'd invite him along but he has a patrol 😒 and a defender convoy would be cool. Could we line it up with end of production as a celebration/tribute to the best 4x4 by far? Feel we need our corner of the globe needs to give the 👍 to lr for such a beast, what better way than exploring and using the cars potential.

Hi guys, we are in the South East near Cygnet and have a 1997 110, we bought this one in Vic back in January and it has spent most of the time since at Justin Coopers place in Kingston, or in pieces in my shed. My Wife and I are interested in camping and 4 wheeling, wouldn't mind having a run with some other Landy owners before we get back on the mainland next year for the Simpson, Western Deserts, Kimberley etc. The car should be rolling out of the shed in the next couple of days for a couple of weeks before the Allisport Intercooler arrives. The Climes track can be done from either end, November last year I drove it with some other New South Welshman from South to North. I gather the Granite Creek waterfall section is closed whilst a bridge is built (may be finished already). It took half a day for three of us to traverse, but we didn't go to the mine and now wish we had. I had to winch my stock Perentie through some sticky mud at the northern end but apparently that has been fixed up now for the bridge works.

Balfour Track is pretty wet and whilst I can say I have survived it, I wouldn't do it again as the car didn't enjoy it. It isn't all that scenic (unless you've never seen a puddle before) and it is very hard on cars-the silt in the kilometre or so of puddles is a fantastic grinding medium, ideal for eliminating the effectiveness of seals and reducing bearing life, not to mention you'll be cleaning it out for years. Have lots of loooong snatch straps ready.
However...the Sandy Cape track from Arthur River to the start of the Balfour track is scenic and extremely enjoyable, and the Balfour Hotel at the other end of the track is fantastic.

South of Arthur River there is a beaut maze of tracks around Sarah Anne Rocks coming out at Temma. Good views, a bit of sand driving and a not-too-deep puddle near Temma. We hadn't checked the legalities so of course we didn't drive it :angel:
