Hi All
I have ordered a new slave cylinder to replace my leaking on .... Why would the rubber ring perish ... Is it cheap. Clutch fluid or a cheap slave ....93433

Moisture is what causes it to perish. Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. The slave is the lowest point so that's where the moisture accumulates and causes corrosion on the piston and sleeve. Sleeving the slave cylinder in s/steel can greatly extend the life span.

Question for you Themadmob, how come you post your questions on Facebook and then the forums?
Also I was reading about replacing the slave cylinder, and someone suggested removing the dust cap and putting a blob of grade over the piston to reduce the moisture getting through.

Hi Badco .. no real reason ... Getting as big a spread as possible for advice ... I am sure the same group of enthusiasts are on both ... Do you post on FB as well ? ... Ah that's a plan ... Thanks for advice

Only if I need an urgent answer for something that I am unable to search for, like whether I need to keep that gasket/shim on the slave cylinder ;) Otherwise I try and avoid the facebook page, as it seems 90% of the people are youngins asking the same questions about there D2s.
That is a complete generalisation of course, occasionally I do learn something from the facebook page :)
