I thought the Aussie mouse trap was a bucket of water, a bit of peanut paste and a greasy stick. :p

I think your right mate.
I have actually seen a more complicated version. I can't remember the exact details or the age of the trap but I know it was used during a mouse plague. It was located in the Old Borenore Post Office about 25km west of Orange NSW. I don't know if the building still even stands.
I think the bucket had some sort of ramp system and once the mouse reached a certain point it would drop them in the water.

Do you guys have any tricks for keeping mice and rats out fo the sheds .... I just found a bloody mouse had chewed up the recently repaired and renewed wiring harness in one of my old 60's Citroens :( ... Damn it all. That's the 3rd time I've had rats/mice damage my cars. They seem to like the modern insulation/sound deadener I've used (and the heat shrink I've used over wiring repairs).

Just finished de mousing my shed , little buggers in my camper and workshop draws with chewed up paper and plastic , one jumped out of the engine of RRS on start up .
Have put baits as well Baby Johnson powder around the perimeter inside , have been told they don't like scented smell etc , will see how it goes .

Bucket of water with an empty long neck ,piece of cheese jammed in the hole of the bottle which you drink from .
An old work sock placed over the large end of the bottle .
Hang the bottle horizontal with the sock just touching the ground .
Place the bucket under the neck of the bottle .
The mouse climbs up the sock along the bottle to stretch out for the cheese ,
Slips off the slender neck into the bucket of water .
68 mice in one night.:D

Best way to mouse proof you shed is get a cat.
I hate cats but a working cat is as good as a working dog.
We had a mouse problem, mate give us a kitten after a feral had got to his house pet cat.
I put some hay in a old 5000L tank that I got for nothing (it was scrap). Capped the big hole and left a hole big enough for the cat but too small for the dogs.
The cat got half a cup of home brand (cheapest) cat food every 2 or 3 days.
Never saw another mouse. The cat stayed when we sold the property.
Happy Days.

Yeah mate, I wasn't having a go. We've used this method heaps in the feed shed. Mice plagues are bloody fierce, you would be amazed how many mice can fit under an empty grain bag.

Nah, mate. I didn't think you were.
It just reminded me of this trap. It was quite a complicated contraption. I just wish I could remember it better.

I have to do something. I put baits out only 6weeks ago in the shed ... there all gone. I just popped the bonnet of the car and found the small hydraulic fluid tin I bought on ebay france last year .... a period 60's tin that fits the built in oil can holder ......... Has had it's cap chewed through ...It's made of metal :o :o :o :o
I'm off to buy another bucket of baits tomorrow. I always get the strong poison bates... The ones that kill with one feed. we get big rats here as well as mice.

Long time ago in brissy we had a mouse problem big time. Got this steel cage thing not much bigger than a couple of shoe boxes. Wind up spring mechanism. As mice walk across a threshold the bottom trips the spring to turn a gate around and knock the bugger inside. One night (one winding of the spring) 30-40 mice.
Don't know if they are still available to buy.

I ordered one of these the other week RAT Trap Direct From THE Importer | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Rat-Trap-Direct-from-the-importer-/261339593037?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3cd90db94d)
Well it arrived one afternoon and my Wife put it out on the back deck to trap what ever was eating her Strawberries. Well within 10 mins...snap and one Rat captured :o
I took him for a nice drive and released him in the bush. I think he was native as when I opened the trap door he went hopping off into the bush more like a Kangaroo than a Rat :D

That's interesting. I've heard of versions using honey. Feet get slippery and they can't get out of the bucket. Also catches cockroaches and ants. Needs to be emptied regularly or it gets smelly.

Yep, one of those came with the house we recently bought in Maleny. The previous owner used it for catching bush rats, which he would then release in the paddock across the road. Don't think it will work for hares unfortunately, as we regularly see them hopping across our front yard.
