So, I have noticed there have been questions regarding parts that are interchangable.

So if you have put parts on your car that are from a different model, please post it up, but please no guesses, you need to prove it fits.

I know these will fit, as I have them on my D4.

Discovery 3 factory 17" rims, will fit the Discovery 4 2.7l TDV6 only

The Discovery 4 tow hitch can replace the Discovery 3 plough hitch.

I will make it a sticky once we get enough info

D4 tail light units will fit a D3 - note a resistor will need to be fitted to each blinker wire behind the tailight for the instrument cluster to blink at the correct rate.
A major plus with doing this is you no longer have issues with blown brake light globes causing other faults in the vehicle electronics.

Fitting Resistors

Resistors are needed on each of the indicator circuits to provide a dummy "load" and ensures that the green indicator warning lamps/arrows in the instrument cluster flash at the correct speed.

Without resistors fitted, the much lower power consumption of the LED indicator units in the D4 rear lights causes the D3 body controller to believe the indicator lamps have blown and flashes the indicators on the dash at double speed as a warning to the driver.

Details of the wiring modification are in this thread: DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Wiring in D4 LED clear rear lights. (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic43707.html#43707), specifically Slimer's post at DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Wiring in D4 LED clear rear lights. (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post571409.html#571409)

The resistors required are two 6Ω (ohm) 25 or 50W (Watt) resistors, available from various sources including eBay, where kits including some with pre-wired resistors and piggyback connectors are available for doing this to various vehicles.

Some details of placement and mounting of the resistors is available at DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Help photo's need advice on fitting D4 rear LED lights (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic45407.html)

Cheaper to purchase the tailights off an UK eBay seller - just watch out on postage costs.

Some D3 18" rims will fit on the rear of some D4's. I say some as there has been some discussion if they fit or not.

In my case a RRC500242 D3 5 spoke dished centre rim fits on my MY12 D4 3.0 diesel. It makes a cheaper alternative for an additional spare 18" for those more remote trips.

Please check out the thread.

Might need to take the saucer away for it to fit in the D4, gear selector will get in the way:p

Hi Baz,
I am assuming that people know the mechanical stuff is interchangeable like filters, plugs (where applicable), belts and the likes of EGR's are interchangeable, front and rear control arms, water outlet housings brake pads and a few other mechanical parts. Dependant of the engine fitted of course petrol or diesel.

Shame the doors arent. The panel fold on the RRS doors would look much better than the Disco doors.

The is a great thread as I am currently considering trading my F6 on a D4. I bought a D3 V8 last December with all the gear. I will be a fulltime student in the near future and don't want the fuel bills and the F6 has to go. The bits I want to swap.

- 100litre fuel tank
- Kaymar duel wheel carrier
- Alpine Nav and Reverse Camera.
- Safaris Snorkel
- Arb Bullbar and Warn winch.
- 18 Inch wheels.

I intend to strip the the D3 and sell it without all this stuff. I figure I wouldn't lose as much as if I was replacing it all with new.

I know the Bullbar doesn't fit the latest D4 but what models will it fit.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Guys this is not a conversation thread about what to do with all your parts, it's just for info on inter-changable parts, if you want info on anything, ask the questions in the general D3/D4/RRS forum below, I'm trying to keep this as a resource only.

Baz.

You ask the question in the general forum and when you find out, then you put it in here as a resource for other members.

My mechanic Dennis from Tulla Car Care has just replaced the original land rover plugs LR000604 to the NGK V-Power 2683 after we had cylinder 1 misfire issues due to the insualator being cracked. Original plugs were only put on 40k ago as per schedule 144k but mechanic beleives they were already feathering out etc... The original plugs were branded Motorcarft and are probably the rebranded Motorcraft SP-498 which makes sense as I have the V6 petrol which is a ford engine. Car running beautifully again. Will repost if theer are any issues down the track.

The link below shows the different spark plaugs that can be used in the D3 V6 petrol models.

Lower control for the D3 and RRS are interchangable, but not with the D4.

The bushes that go into the lower control arms are interchangable though.

Front lower arms and rear upper arms from the RRS fit the D3.

There is an armoured D3 drop link, may be stronger than the normal one.

The steering wheels from the D4 and RRS are all interchangable, you need the correct clock spring to keep all features working, but can also add new ones.

Eg, my 05 D3 is getting the heated flappy paddle wheel from my mates 12 D4 as he is swapping for a 12 RRS. I will need the correct clock spring, modules but it will all fit and work.

The Bluetooth module from the D4 can go in the D3, this allows some of the newer smart phones to connect better.

4 pot Brembo's from the RRS fit the D3. As fitted to my own car. You need aftermarket 18s, or 19 6 spoke HSE alloys from the D3. The later HSE wheels need a small spacer to clear.
6 pot Brembo's also fit, you need 20s for clearance for them.

The RRS Supercharged brake master cylinder is also a good upgrade for better brake force if doing the above brake change.

Seems the new Defender steel wheels will fit a D3/4 and can bee seen from 8:10 in this video I put $2,000+ Defender Steelies on my Land Rover LR4 (Land Rover Owner's Day at Quail Lodge) - YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2ji42Zg-p4) The LR4 owner does say the TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring Sys) wasn't compatible though.
