View Full Version : Which parts to save on a SIII 5 door ?

I've just been to look at a 5 door wagon that has seen better days.
Most panels damaged beyond repair, Holden motor (but it was a 6-cyl so no chopped crossmember), door frames rotten, bulkhead/footwells rotten.

I can take off the parts I need and can negotiate a price with the seller. So far I'm up for the rear seats, possibly the tropical roof (but it does have some damage), rear window glass and a few other bits & pieces.
Anything else specific to the wagon that should be saved ??

I'll post a picture later.

The rear doors, if they are repairable, and the 'B' pillar plus sill.
Rear name plate.
Roof ventilators
Any interior trim that is usable.
Rear floor panel
rear springs unless broken or badly spread.

I have specified bits that are unique to the station wagons and hard to find.
In addition, any common bits that are a bit hard to find might be worth latching on to such as instrument panels, hinges, locks etx if they are any good.

Thanks John,
A couple of the items you listed I already had my eye on such as the rear badge (4WD Station Wagon) and the B pillars (for my Dormobile) and also the rear floor panel (again for my Dormobile).
Interior trim is past saving (roof trim may be OK).

DeLuxe bonnet is also a possibility and I hadn't thought about the rear springs, doorlocks etc.

Looks like I will have to spend a day stripping it down soon.

Doesn't look too bad in the photo.

The plastic grill looks in good nick and the front top door hinges are the drilled type to accept rear view mirror.
Front bumper looks salvageable too, not drilled full of holes and with some encouragement it would straighten out
ok, then with a dip through the gal bath it would be as new.

Cheers, Mick.

Mick,
The more I look at it the more I think I should just move the whole car to home. Only $250 but SWMBO will divorce me......

Hi Colin

Does it still have the front door trim?

I'm in need of the upper section/s that clips over the door top and down to the little arm rest.

I'm really after the parts off an SII/SIIa without the window lock hole, but they're going to be recovered so we'll just go over the hole without cutting.

Diana,
Interior trim is past saving unfortunately, just looked at the pictures and most of the front door trim is actually missing.

save the roof complete, the safari roof is a winner on our hot days.
are the station wagon sides the same as a shorty? save them as the sliding window set up is also an excellent bit of kit on hot days.

There is some damage to the rear of the tropical roof but should be straightforward to fix. I need one rear side for my Dormobile, don't have a need for the roof (at the moment).
Rear passenger doors have tears in the skins & rusty frames but may get them anyway along with the rear door.

I should get the whole vehicle but SWMBO wouldn't be happy.....

Been there, done that.
Problem is when you say it will only be on the driveway for a month while you part it out and it's still there 18months later....
I'm probably my own worst enemy.

Station Wagons are VERY hard to get parts for. We have many enquires for them, though we have 2 here now, 1 complete. The roof is a keeper, safari roofs are hard to come by also. Just take it home, SWMBO will forgive you eventually;):wasntme:

I thought that wagon looked familiar, its sitting in my driveway now being restored.

On an entirely unrelated note, does anyone know where i can get a set of wagon doors for a S3 :p
