View Full Version : Do we want to separate RRS from the D3/D4

For a long time the RRS and Disco 3 and Disco 4 shared the same platform and hence the RRS (L320) was hosted with the D3 and D3 on this forum.

This is no longer the case. The L494 Range Rover Sport has an aluminium chassis (D7u platform) which is not shared with the Discovery 4.

Do members, particularly those with RRS want to separate the RRS and host it with the other Range Rover models?

If it needs seperating, keep the old RRS specific posts here.
Next issue,RRS owners that dont know the difference will be posting in the new area.

Hi There,
Does the new Discovery Sport have anything in common with the new RRS platform, apart from also being made by Land Rover? Does the Discovery Sport stay in the D3 / D4 site?

The Discovery Sport is based on the Evoque although it will be replacing the Freelander. So by rights it's more likely to go into one of those forums rather than the D3/D4,RRS forum.

I have another idea, why not make a sub-forum in the D3/D4/RRS section for the L494 RRS.

Potential forum split

Discovery 1
Discovery 2
T5 Platform (in this main area anything generic to this platform can be posted)

D3 specific
D4 specific
RRS specific

D7u Platform (in this main area anything generic to this platform can be posted)

RRS
Disco

That looks ok to me, the current D3, D4 & RRS forum remains intact, but discussion on the new models is close and in the same general area.

Is the Disco on the D7u platform?
AFAIK the D7u is the aluminium chassis RRS not shared with the current D4

The L494 RRS is closer to the L405 Range Rovers than it is to the D4

I wonder how many of the voters have a RRS?
People forget that RRS has shorter wheelbase as the D3 D4 chassis is cut down so not the same despite common running gear.
I have had both, and the reduced luggage space in RRS is much less.
Lack of split tailgate is another annoying difference.

Leave the D5 out until it is released, once that happens it could have it's own section with the L494 RRS.

Looks fair, perhaps just specify D3/D4/L320 RRS.

I am now (well my wife is) in the L320 camp and feel best aligned with the current Disco cohort. I'm not sure there'd be the critical mass for a separate RRS forum either.

And yes, I miss the picnic table/work bench tailgate, and cargo space. And the 720kg payload...

Thinking about things some more, the essential stuff, the running gear and the electrickery is quite similar between D4 and current RRS. The body structure is different yes but how much discussion is generated within the forum about this, its usually motors gearboxes wheels, and oh electric stuff. The differences between D3 and D4 folk seem to cope with OK. There is a lot of common interest, at least for me, to the current D3 D4 RRS area. Is it neccessary to seperate the RRS at all?

There isn't a whole lot of traffic in the current L494 area.

The Discovery Sport is different kettle of fish as it is effectively a completely different car growing from the Freelander and Evoque with only the name and maybe some performance being the same as the D3 D4 RRS.

Just thinking, Simmo 2014 RRS TDV6

I wish there were more sub headings inside the Discovery 3/4 section, as in other car forums there are sub heading for,

electrical
drive line
wheels and tyres
engine
protection

ETC.

I find it very hard to find specific topics in the jumble that is our little sub heading.

I try searching but I also find the engine useless due to it give too many unrelated threads.

Wow can you imagine that here? :o

There have been more than thirty different engines, many of which were used in multiple vehicle models (e.g. Defender, Disco and Range Rover) at the same time.

IMHO The forum would be unworkable, you'd never be able to find what you want.

There are four times as many members advocating no change or adding L494 to Range Rover than there are advocating moving L319 RRS to Range Rover (18/23 Vs 9).

Not that we're a democracy in AULRO but the numbers have spoken.

There is already an area for the L494 Range Rover http://www.aulro.com/afvb/l405-l494-range-rover/ so we'll not be changing anything.
