I can't believe it.. I reversed into a pole with a 3 week old car

I'm still beside myself.

I got blocked into a parking lot, so had to reverse quite a way withch I did straight. Unfortunately, a pole was directly behind the drivers side corner of the car... Despite looking in the mirror the whole way...clunk style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif I had no idea what I'd bumped. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif There was a small pole holding up a huge sign style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif

Anyway, there is a broken indicator, and the panel is just very slightly moved. The main damage is the very corner little panel that holds the lights.. The one that joins the back and sides of the car.

Does anyone know if this panel can be removed by just drilling the rivets and dropping it down??

If so, I can probably fix it myself. Does anyone know anyone in Brisbane who is experienced with repairing Defenders ?

just tap it back out from the inside.....there is no inner panel on defenders.

just dont let any news reporters hear that you have a blind spot behind a 4wd.....

Good idea... I'll llok at that in the morning.

Lol at the blindspot. That did cross my mind. As long as the child isn't 10ft high and 3 inches wide they should be ok. 8O

Well being a news reporter (who drives a Discovery, and once had a Bronco) I thought the vast irony of this story was that some Holdens were tested (ny the NRMA am I right here?) the worst for rear visibility, omg Australia's 'own car'! tisk tisk.....A Holden? never...... obviously the sole and entire reason I don't drive a Holden...

Didn't test an X1/9 did they, all you see out the rear window in that is kneecaps or numberplates, my eyeline is about where the wheel hub is on the Disco

Now thats more like it, a lighthearted post!
I didn't think the l/rovers had blind spots, after all I can see when I am reversing, however ask my wife, total tally for 12 months, and in Lismore mind you,
1 motorbike, reversed over it,(the spare was in the way)
1 signpost reversed into it, rear near side corner,(didn't see it)
1 fence? same corner, didn't know
1 brick wall same corner, not sure
1 bumper bar of AU Falcon, blamed towbar for sticking out too far.
plus numerous scrapes/marks on the plastic corners of the bumper bars.

Just had a thought what about one of those radar reversing alarm thingys they are putting on a lot of new cars now. I have noticed them more on Fords and now holdens.
I have seen the bargain basement priced ones for $30, that may save ours from further damage.
Or perhaps do as they used to instruct in my occupation, 'the escort of the vehicle will get out when the driver is reversing and assist ' or something like that.

Couple of bits of railway iron bolted to the back are just as effective if you are that prone. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Geeez John,
With a reputation like that I would be leaving Lismore. The whole town is reverse park by law isn't it?
I get cranky when I scrub a tyre. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

There's some good stuff here style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Having said that, can anyone tell me of an experienced LR repairer in Brisbane?

I spoke to two panelbeaters today. Neither of them would allow me to talk to someone who actually does the work. One said they just contract out aluminium work. I asked the recemption lady at the one if they had any experience repairing landrovers, and she said "we do heaps of Land Cruisers here!"

So I phoned MR and they recommended GS Panel Repairs. I rang them and talked to the Gary in GS. I'm going out to see them tomorrow morning. They sounded promising on the phone. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Anyone had experience with these guys?

That corner section actually is made of steel and does basically just fall off once the rivets are drilled out. Hammered mine square again, a spray can of white, and looks half descent again. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

I've backed into things three times on that corner even knowing there is a blind spot!!!!!!

They are at last price I found in undercote metal from Rover about $70, hard to get 2nd hand as they sell them with the back guard.

Thanks trev
I forgot to mention knocking down the lattice fence at the Dentists, she drove into that one and hit it with the nudge bar, her excuse it is a crappy old fence 'it just fell down', she had to drive over a wheel stop to get to it.

I have( for what its worth) barred her from reverse parking or doing anything in the car that involves putting it in reverse.
Most of the parking places in Lismore are nose in, but reverse out.
I'm glad there is more than one grey disco in Lismore.
