I have a Uniden uh015sx uhf cb radio , which is possibly irrelevant.
It transmits but doesnt receive,
Does anyone know a local ie Bris-Gold Coast shop can test/diagnose it for me?
These days it's probably cheaper to scrap it and buy a new one anyway.

I was very happy with Olbis Communications at Rocklea, where I bought my GME and aerial. I think they do a lot of work for truckies. I don't know for sure regarding testing/diagnosis but they do seem to know UHF and specialise in that. It's worth a phone call.
Cheers,

I could be wrong, but I would think that a 40ch set wouldn't be worth worrying about unless you were specifically using it with other 40ch sets.
While they can be used to communicate with chs 1-40 of the current 80ch sets there are potential clarity problems and there are adequately capable 80ch sets available at relatively low prices (eg Oricom)

yes thanks Scott, I have been put onto Olbis and spoken to them and yes to you 87County , that is one of the things we spoke about.
Now I'm considering the junk pile for my 5yo set.
And I'm considering a new Tait 80 channel unit.
any arguments or recommendations from cb users here.....I know there's a lot of you.

I think that any of the current offering of 5w 80ch fixed units that have warranties will work OK - I know that Oricom (cheap), Uniden (mid price) & GME (more exe) all work well.
Anybody who has $s to spend may go for an Icom.
Most are now made in China.
Some makers have complete packages wired with a cig lighter plug and having a magnetic based aerial to use temporarily with the idea of moving the unit from car to car. These seem to work well surprisingly.
If you are considering a hand held, make sure you get a 5w unit to get acceptable range. The lower wattage units are only reliably any good for quite limited range.

Also, for good prices on new units take a look at prestige communications site, prompt and free delivery to the eastern states.
