View Full Version : side step query

I've been lucky enough to purchase 2 original side steps for my SIIA - see attached photo. They need a fair bit of de-rusting and painting and I will need to track down the rubber mat for them.
But I've a query. How are they fitted and more importantly where does that 30 cm long brace go? My early parts manual and my work shop manual shed no light at all.
If anyone has photos of a side step installed, especially from underneath, I would really appreciate it.
Cheers

Not a great photo (limited access and it's getting dark).
This is on the passenger side looking from the front.

I wonder if Paddocks can supply just the rubber ?

I will see if I can get a photo in the morning (if it has stopped raining), but it will not help with the long stay, as I have both Left and right tanks.
When the rubber gave up i replaced it with alloy treadplate,

I've found that Craddocks can supply the rubber mat - part number 517977 along with the rivets that are needed to fit it. Craddocks assure me that the replacement rubber mat fits original side steps - so I'll be ordering some soon.

I've been crawling around under my SIIA trying to figure out exactly what the side steps get attached to. I'm guessing the side step bracket gets bolted to the U shaped sill channel and presumably one side of the side step bracket gets bolted via the bolt that also holds the securing bracket for the sill. Can anyone confirm this please. A photo showing the side step in relation to the door hinge would be an enormous help.
The 2 side steps came with only 1 small L shaped bracket (left in the photo). I'm guessing this gets attached to the chassis outrigger and then the 30 cm long support bracket gets bolted to that (right in photo). Is this correct? If so I'll need to get another small bracket fabricated.
Thanks for your help.
