Brooklyn, on the Hawkesbury River?

It's the only place I can think of with a spit like that carrying a railway line and where 3801 might have run. I've only been to Brooklyn once and that was last year. It looks like it could be there.

Well done Ron, it is the Hawkesbury. I spoke with the artist at the model train show. He painted it from a photo. He has original and prints of quite a few old and/or significant trains in picturesque places throughout Australia, all painted from old photos. I have his contact details if anybody is interested.

Ron beat me to it! (I could not remember the name of the place, but was going to look it up on a map - then scrolled down and found the answer was already there! I can remember going through there by train a number of times, especially going to the annual Cadet camp at Singleton, but also to relatives in Newcastle.

Yep I agree, Brooklyn near the Hawksebury. Very scenic country!!:D

Yep, the train is about two or three hundred "yards" north of Hawksbury River station.

The 38 is about to enter the south tunnel leading on to the NEW Hawksbury river bridge.

If you look above the 38, to where the telegraph pole is, that is the original single track alinement that ran around the hill to the OLD Hawksbury River bridge.

A bit of trivia, if you are ever travelling over the new bridge, the pylons for the old bridge are still there and if you look carefully, you can see lot of large holes, near the top of each pylon.

These were drilled into the pylons during the second world war, and were to be filled with explosives to blow up the bridge if the Japanese invaded and got that far south.
