I'm looking at replacing the current rubber hoses. I think long-term it would be wise to swap the rubber intercooler hose with stainless (or some other metal). This would mean silicone fittings would be straight sections - much easier to find and cheaper.

Anyone know of a supplier?

any exhaust shop.

get mild steel and then solder on a ring of fencing wire or coathanger to make the lip to hold the clamp on.

I dont think you really need to go to the trouble. My 96 defender with 324000k on the clock still has the original hoses! Replaced the t/belt the other day and as part I replaced all the coolant hoses , cleaned the rad and washed the intercooler. Checked the intercooler hoses carefully and they are still perfect inside, given the service life I would be happy to replace with same again genuine I think of course.

Cheers Scott

You mean this:

Landrover Defender 300tdi Alloy Intercooler Pipes | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Landrover-Defender-300tdi-Alloy-Intercooler-Pipes-/151685266199?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2351257b17)

There's nothing wrong with the silicone hoses - especially for the top hose.

I am getting APT Fabrications to make up a new stainless intercooler pipe (between intercooler and turbo) as the factory steel pipe has a crushed section restricting the flow. I am just trying to squeeze everything I can out of the 300tdi!

Can you ask Ben about cost for the top hose also? It would be good having the only hoses as generic straights or 90 degree bends, be they rubber or silicone.
