View Full Version : 3 Reasons why I like my Land Rover

Been away for a bit and have found not much has changed, a mate also said to me recently how AULRO has so many posts about blokes with issues regarding their Landies. So thought I chuck a few ideas down on why and what I like, how I appreciate it, and get into my Defender so much.

My Tdi resto started the instant I turned the key yesterday, without glowing and after sitting for months in the front yard under a tarp. That's the third start in 2.5 years, all have been the same except I remembered to glow the first and second.

My wife tells me the TDCi is comfier to sleep in than here car. This is great as it going to allow me to leave at night or early morning and know she can do here favourite thing, sleep.

I really like the way the Defender accommodates all that you ask of it. Be it slow steady controlled crawl down through a creek. Get up and go on the high way (has tune), or keeps the family in comfort as we smash over some gibber road under the big blue sky in the middle of Australia on some rarely used track we hope leads to the main road.

What's your 3

All car forums have heaps of posts about that marque going wrong as it's the best place to get information on how to fix them. :)

Most LR owners are not on AULRO and trundle about day in and day out without issue.

The thing I love the most about my Land Rovers is the looks that you get from others - either in the L322 (look of envy :D) or in the 101 (look of 'WTF is that?')

Both make me grin from ear to ear everytime I drive them.

Love the old tdi
Driven one or other tdi 200000km and not once left stranded or needed help
Always comfortable and economical and capable
Easy and cheap to fix

Hello All,

My Series III does not beep at me!

My wife bought a Toyota. If you put the key in the ignition with the driver's door open - it beeps at you. If you sit in the seat and not put a seatbelt on - it beeps at you. If one of the doors are not properly closed - you guessed it

Yes all this stuff is safety related - however I figure that I have not gone that decrepit yet that I am not aware of what I am doing.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Oh yeah, I hear you. My company car does all that and more - if you go shopping and put a bag of groceries on the passanger front seat, or if the dog sits up the front - it beeps at you thinking your passanger has not buckled up. It's so sensitive that 2 x 2 litre milk bottles will set it off.

Gives me the ****s....

1- The smile on my dial when it goes over, through up or down!
2- Long drives to do above
3-The look of surprise/shock on some peoples faces when occasionally it takes off from a traffic light quickly especially with a large boat or trailer on behind or swags and bikes loaded on top.

Cutting it down to just three is cruel mate :D

In lesser vehicles I am persuaded to drive for employment related reasons, the first thing I do is buckle up the passenger seat belt. Its one less light and one less buzzer I have to deal with, especially as its only usually my crib bag or a parts manual sitting there

Crikey :o. It must be a huge tide if you can see the ocean in Newman. ;)

They've had massive amount of rain up there in the last couple of days Ian. Was just looking at photos of the crushing plant out at Nullagine today. Pretty hard to crush rock when much of your plant is under water. :o

Yes Lionel there is something romantic, fundamentally simple, and just plain out enjoyable with basic. All those safety beeps doesn't stop the other car texting, drink driving, drug driving, or speeding. But I have to say I love that my defender doesn't treat me like I'm stupid and beep at me. To leave the door open and listen to the radio while I pack, just something so simple, with so much unthought of pleaser is a thing of the past. Nowadays it's beeping cause the door is open and gets louder because you haven't noticed, then shuts off the radio as to say **** you owner, do as I say you stupid fool.

I bag the **** out of my Defender due to the silly design/build issues, but I still love the old girl as most of the compromises are the way I like them to be, and it does put a smile on your dial in use. :D

Most everything else is just transport.
