Any hints as to how to best access the uni-joints on the Perentie for greasing? I got as far as trying to fit the grease-gun coupler onto the grease nipples only to find the lobes of the uni-joints won't allow the coupler access.

The greatest clearance (I think) is when the grease nipple is facing down and the lobes and the joint lobes are furthest apart; albeit the truck was standing normally under self-weight i.e. not supported on car stands. Maybe when supported on stands and the suspension is not under load the clearance is greater?

I had thought too of removing the standard grease nipple using a long socket and installing a long-barrel grease nipple temporarily for greasing, then re-installing the standard one again.

Any thoughts/hints appreciated.

Also whereabouts on the water pump body is the supposed grease nipple for the water pump? I had a quick look the other night and couldn't see it, though the lighting was poor. Again, any guidance appreciated.

Cheers, Dave

Dave, I find the only way to get the grease in properly is to drop the tailshaft, do the 2 unis, refit it and then do the slip joint. It's a bit of mucking around but at least you are sure it's greased properly. The one on the water pump (4x4) is on the top of the water pump housing under the thermo housing.

buy an extened grease niple an a single hex deep reach skeekt to suit it an the existing nipple.

unscrew the old nipple then srew in teh long one, grease and then swap them back

or gt a gease needle

wipe the face of the grease nipple put that thing on your grease gun and use it to depress the ball from about a 15 degree angle, square it up as you push it home then squeeze the grease in. when its in lace the tape of the needle seals up against the hole of the niple.

you can get them with double tapers (pictured) on them so if need be you can inject the hole without the nipple if need be
