Taking the disco for its first big road trip for the crows and carlton game next weekend. Unfortunately mostly bitumen.
Just after a few tips from anyone who has some great places to stop for lunch/stretch of the legs.
We'll be leaving early so keen to have a look at a couple of cool spots if we could.
Cheers Scott

My favourite halfway lunch stop is at Nhill, there's a park on the western side of town with a few old relics and a loo. The boardwalk across the Nhill Swamp will give you 20 minutes of pleasant exercise.

Haven't decided 100% on which route yet. Mrs would like to stop in Lorne on the way back other than that not sure. So i thought I'd see what some ideas were and on sunday we are having dinner with the other couple who are going so we'll be deciding then

If you decide to go the inland route through Nhill, you can always stop at Keith (over the border in SA), there's a nice little bit of parkland in the town with a S1 Land Rover stuck on a pole! :D

If you stop at Keith, "Henry and Rose" is the place to stop for a bite.

If you have a little time to spare and doing the Western Highway run I've got a little detour in mind.
Hit Mick's second home at Keith for a feed and do the photo of the Land Rover on the pole as any Landy owner would.
Just after Horsham detour through the Grampians via Wartook heading to Halls Gap.
A walk to the MacKenzie water fall to stretch the legs, last trip there was a cafe there too.
From there out through Pomonal/Moyston and to Ararat before re-joining the Western Highway.

I hate football. I've been to "The G" twice. Dragged there once.
It is a magic experience no matter who is playing.

Nah impossible, everything is ok now since Malthouse has left.
The team will instantly play better because it was all Malthouses's fault:o
Well that's what the board probably thinks.

Well they didnt last night:wasntme:
Anyways, thanks for all the ideas we'll be deciding tomorrow where to stop. My vote will be for halls gap.
went on the website and it looks amazing. The series 1 on the pole might only get one vote from me but considering im driving i might just make a "wrong turn" and just stumble across it:D
probably call into Nhill for some morning tea and cakes, the mrs was pretty keen on those too

I'm not a great "Footy Fan",...but I do watch the odd game, which I seem to enjoy more as I don't follow any particular team, except that I really LOVE to see Collingwood Lose. Got a lotta respect for Nathan Buckley though,...a man who leads by example, doesn't shirk an issue, and puts his money where his mouth is....a REALLY good example for the youth of today,...IMHO.
Last couple of games We've been to were as guests of Telstra in their Corporate Box at Etihad,.....the ONLY way to watch Footy!

NB: As far as travelling to Adelaide is concerned, I stay right away from the Western Highway, stay away from it like the plague,..too many trucks. We prefer the Calder, then We make our way up to Berri, stay at the Berri Golf Club Motel (have a ripper feed in the Golf Club Biistro), then make our way down to Adelaide the next day!

Glenelg Highway through Hamilton is a good alternative route. Adds about an hour to the trip but the roads are quieter and the scenery nicer.
When I road trip, McDonalds is mandatory (don't eat it any other time) but it is genuine road-trip food and that's just the way it rolls. That means Horsham is the place to stop if doing the Western Hwy.
The Western Hwy drive is not difficult. I've done it a hundred times or more and its pretty easy. The only thing that can get annoying is roadworks, but that's the same with all the major highways. If you travel during the day the trucks aren't that big an issue, they come out at night with the other wildlife.

Ok disco has been cleaned inside and out new air filter and fluids checked, nipples greased and the like all ready to go.
We'll be going through Nhill for some coffee and cakes then to Halls Gap and on through to Melbourne. Thanks for the suggestions.
On the way back hopefully have enough time spare to drive a bit of the Great Ocean road.
Most importantly 'Carn the Crows!'[thumbsupbig]
