So

Does anyone know a good monitor that would be close to an Eizo but costs a bit less

Would love n Eizo but can't justify the money at the moment especially as I would like to upgrade my mid range lens.

Eizo's seldom come up second hand at a good price. Although I missed out on one today that went for $465 second hand.

I know that nec do a monitor (not sure which model) that is held in high regard I believe

Does anyone else know what good monitors to get, to get a good colour rendition close to what will be printed?

Yes I do have a spyder pro.

My current monitor (Asus splendid) doesn't have enough sliders that the spyder requires in order to calibrate it properly

I have an Asus PA248Q IPS monitor and am very happy with it given $395 it cost me 2 years ago. Coupled with a Spyder it does a great job, colour is fantastic and it has some nice built in features.

An Eizo would be great but hard to justify for an infrequent amateur..........

Have you actually printed your photos though or are you just saying the colours are great on the screen.

I'm asking because the accuracy of the monitor lays in the end print

Dell UltraSharp 24 Monitor (http://m.dell.com/mt/accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&l=en&s=dhs&cs=audhs1&sku=391-BBUT&un_jtt_v_page=tabs_specstab)

I found this one that is interesting it's at the end of my budget too

I have but I'm really going by the calibration report that the monitor came with and the one I get from my spyder, in comparison to other monitors I have had and currently use for day to day stuff.

I would go bigger if I was buying now. At least 28".

I posed the question on a photography page on Facebook and it looks like a good few are using the dell ultra sharp.

There is a professional photography monitor coming out from Benq but it hasn't been released yet.

So far it looks like I might go the dell way especially as it's just in my budget.

I probably going to get the 24 though rather than the 27 as I was thinking I could keep the monitor I have now and run them both

Can't imagine Pete it would be working as hard as it would for gaming on static images in Lightroom.

Some time back I bought close to the 'base model' EIZO. I am very happy with it.
At the time the Dell Ultra-sharps were the main competition, at a similar price point.

If only there were someone with a SpyderPro somewhere handy tome it would no doubt be even better.

(Though as I understand it that's only really necessary if you know the details of the place you'll be getting prints done through so you can match the colours you see to what you'll get on paper).

Mate, I have a Spyderpro4 you're welcome to try. I'm at Kuraby. The Spyder makes a hell of a difference.

I was offered the ViewSonic VA2446M for a very gentle price http://www.viewsonic.com/us/va2446m-led.html, but I will need to update my VGA card to a fullHD type to be able to enjoy the resolution requiered for photo editing.

Do you think that it is from the same breed of previously mentioned monitors?

The smallest Video card Nvidea make the GT610 (passive!) will run that monitors resolution. A whole $55 in Oz,,

Hey Pete maybe not to early. I have to say I really like the dell enough that I was considering getting rid of the Asus and buying a second Dell as the second monitor. The only thing stopping me is the ability to connect it I would have to upgrade my video card for connectivity. Might not be a bad thing as I currently don't use the video card to connect as both the monitors are currently connected through the motherboard as the video card couldn't entertain the monitors due to the way the monitors connected. So who knows [emoji12]

Do your homework on 144hz,,
I have no idea if refresh is as important to your skills as mine,,
but my next will run at 144.;)

otherwise those new Dells look:cool:

Yeah refresh I don't think is an issue isn't that to do more with movement and ghosting?
Most important thing for me is sharpness and colour accuracy
