Hi guys

Looking for advice. Sooooooooo long since I worked on drum brakes, say 35-40 yrs.

Anyway, $1s drums are .035-.045 OS ie 10" nominal +.035-.045" Book limits are +.030" on dia. Anyone out there taken them out to +.050 and had no problems? If re-lining shoes one could adjust thickness by .025" to get the correct radii. Mmmmmm?????????

Cheers

I would be inclined to get new drums - they are the same as swb Series 2a, and these should be readily available and pretty cheap.

Series 1 drums are the same as series 2 and series 2a drums and replacements are readily available and not all that expensive.

Remember if you go oversize on the drum then you also have to get oversize linings on the shoes and the cost of machining and shoes can be nearly as much as getting replacements in standard sizes.

From Roverparts + in Victoria 10 inch drums are $99 each Land Rover Parts - BRAKE DRUMS 88 (short wheel base) 1950-'71 (up to & including chassis suffix 'G') (http://www.roverparts.com.au/brake_drums_88__short_wheel_base__1950__71__up_to_ __including_chassis_suffix__g__?b=1)

And the full set of shoes for a short wheelbase (8 shoes) is also $99. Land Rover Parts - BRAKE SHOE COMPLETE VEHICLE SET - L/ROVER SWB (10'')(FRONT AND REAR) (http://www.roverparts.com.au/inc/sdetail/10736/578)

Shop around there may be better prices out there, I used Roverparts because I know they have the prices posted online.
